If you need more convincing that it takes more than bolt-ons and more motor to go fast around the Ring, check this out:

I done many Virtual laps there over the years in various racing leagues....once did it in a PTC 95 league..drove a Porsche 956..100% locked rear diff and aero that only responded the faster you went! Scary! Champion Motorsports Sim racing league is doing a Porsche Super Cup event there in couple weeks...did a few laps, its as hard as ever! What a track. Hope to someday do the real one....

In racing, 14 seconds is more like 14 minutes! That C6 Z06 is a BEAST!!
I have to agree with the above posts, the 02 and 03 Z06 would be very close to an 04 Z06 and the difference would be very negligible at best.
Does anyone know who drove the C5 Z06 on the Nurburgring? The driver for the C6 Z06 was a Factory Corvette Racing driver. It would be interesting to see Jan Magnuson take the C5 Z06 on the 'Ring and maybe post an even faster time, just a thought.

Notice- it's a Tourist Day, so the track is open to all. So a slow start, no passing on the right, and lots of slower traffic out there. Also at Breidscheid about 5:10 in on this video there is a 50km/h limit (which the driver pretty much ignores, but still...)
This is why I say that a stock C5Z on an empty Ring would have no trouble breaking 8:00.

That straight at the end of the the clip should be 30+ seconds of full throttle in a C5 Z before the end of the run.
This is the full course Ring. The last 40 seconds will show the difference.

Those clips appear to show a shortened version on the Ring.

It would be if the straight weren't cut in half by a turnstile, barriers and a line of cars waiting to run the track during Tourist Days...

the ring is a big street course, anyone who's played gran turismo realizes it's bumpy as hell and would be hard to drive flat out
i'm sure someone did an 8:50 in a c5z that's not bad really. 7:56 would be a driver that's competitive in GT racing, factory driver etc
would imagine with current gen tires like the michelin pss a few more seconds could be shaved off that time as well.
buy a stock 04z in gran turismo 6 and run a lap, it takes some serious skill to run a hot lap. in fact, i'll try that later and see what i get for a time

Dave Hill, Program Manager/Director for the Corvette through the end of the C5 era was the driver. I've red 2 or 3 articles on this and there was no reference to any proffesional or Team drivers, just the Corvette development Team. Made me wonder how much better the car may have been able to do. I believe that Hill may have had some SCCA experience. Any way you look at it the Z06 is an amazing performer for the money.

I am not an expert by any measure, all I can state is my vette tracked very well in controlling understeer at Pocono and Watkins Glenn as well as many questionable non sanctioned instances. As far as I am concerned GM engineers did something right when I lost it and went into the woods at over 100+ mph. Yes driver error big time, but because my wheels stayed on the ground I keep control navigating around large trees and eventually to a controlled stop. No damage, no bottoming out and I lived. Shocks or not, the car performed. Thanks GM

Understeer should never be a problem with a C5Z unless you have very different tires front/rear, or adjustable sways and they are way off, same with coil-overs. The car is 50/50 weight distribution, it is as balanced as you can get and at the limit can use the throttle to control slip....
