Price check: 2003 Z06 for $34,000 CAD
Hoping you guys can help me with this. I’m looking at a 2003 Z06 with around 28,000 miles on it, car is completely stock. He’s asking $34,000 CAD, he said his bottom line is $33,000CAD (any lower and he’ll lose money). I don’t know if he’ll go any lower. Do you guys think it is too much. Remember this is in Canada (although it’s a U.S. car), we don’t have as much selection.

I don't know about the Canadian values as compared to the US values, but I do know this...
Whether or not the seller loses money, makes NO determination on the value of the car. That's the seller's own problem. Don't let that sway you into paying more than its really worth. Just because he'll lose money at a certain price, doesn't make the car worth that price. With that being said, it seems high to me, even in CAD.
So you have something to compare to, I bought my 2003 Z06 last year with 21,000 miles on it, for US$ 28400. Also stock, in excellent shape.
If you can, take a look at other 03Z's for sale, anywhere in Canada... if all else fails, you might end up buying one 500 or 1000 miles away and still come out ahead even after the added expense. At the very least, you'll establish a trend for current Z06 prices out there and can better see where this particular one fits in. If you truly have little to no other cars to compare to, then you are pretty much at the mercy of the seller. How difficult is it to buy in the US and import? Do they totally rip you on the taxes? If that's reasonable to do... you'll find some great bargains down south.

AlaskanPilot, you got a good deal.
The price of this car seems on par with the other cars in the region. The slightly cheaper Z06s have been accidented.
According to AutoTrader.com cars with that mileage are only about $1,000 to $2,000 cheaper. At that point it doesn’t seem worth it. But you got a smoking deal at $28,400 a year ago.
Let’s say I find a U.S. car for about $29,000, when I bring it in I have to pay both taxes which is 13%, $29,000 x 13% = $32,770. Then I have to add $1,000 for RIV fees, recall letter, excise tax, A/C tax and any other misc paper work involved = $33,770. Then I have to add about $1,200 in transportation ( $800 to $900 plane ticket and $200 to $300 in gas. So now I’m around $35,000.
If I can get this car, I noted in my original post, for $32,000 x 13% = $36,160. So I would only save about $1,160 purchasing from the U.S. doesn’t seem worth the hassle.
Is my math wrong? If I’ve missed something, please, let me know.

I paid 32k for mine 1.5 years ago. It's an 03 50th QS z06. It was completely stock at the time of purchase. One owner car with clean carfax and 34k miles. Hope this helps.

Jameel,
I did not know it would be so costly to import... I agree that it does not seem like such a good option after all.
If the cars nearby are within $1-$2K as you say, then I would say the seller's price is a little more reasonable. If it would cost you that much extra to buy a car elsewhere, it wipes out the savings and then you'd have been better off buying the nearby car.
have you looked it over in detail yet? Have a carfax, dealer service history, etc. on it? If the car is really clean, and has a solid history, and checks out ok... then considering the new info you provided, I would have to say, "go for it!"
What color is it?

I've ran a carfax. I posted it in another thread. It's got a clean carfax. The 1st owner had the car registered as "corporate lease vehicle". The current (2nd) owner got it from auction as a "fleet vehicle". Other's have stated not to worry about this, since a lot of small business owners buy cars and put it on their business.
If we come to a conclusion on the price I'm getting a PPI done on the car. I didn't ask him about service history.
It's yellow.

Have the cars history, spoke to the original owner, it was (is) registered at Z16.org, #1152 of 2025. It's a sweet car, you cannot go wrong with a Z, or any C5 for that matter. I had a 01 vert, so wanted something with more grunt...got that in spades

i agree, and would love to import the car of my dreams, a z16, but i just can't stop wondering in the end result, what are the costs? the car may have an extended warranty. what if i take it to my local dealer, and he tells me to get lost? so i go to the border and they tell me my car does not meet can specs. so now i have it. the car of my dreams, paid close to 38,000.00,. sorry man i,m steamed. ,any importers listening, gm dealers in canada,or the us exporters, please listen up. greg.
