383 build question
So I am in the midst of building my 383 and have some simple questions. I'm still learning the in's and out's of my Z and by no means do I consider myself a guru at any of this. However I have done enough research to get me this far. My question is, with a 383 stroker kit, using my z06 ls6 block and porting my stock heads with a 'somewhat agressive/streetable mild lope cam' am I looking at 400-450rwhp or 460-480rwhp or near 500rwhp? thanks for the help folks.....OH also I'll have kooks 1 7/8 headers and corsa pace exhaust with ls7 clutch

I think the LS6 heads and intake will keep you well south of the 500rwhp mark. My 383 made 460rwhp/455rwtq with some pretty good TEA heads through the LS6 intake. A ported FAST intake would have probably been worth another 25rwhp easy...

My 383 with a 232/240 cam, AFR 225's and LS6 intake made 462rwhp (torque reading wasnt working), I put on a ported FAST 90 and it went to 472/455 but the midrange picked up over 20hp.

Well first you aren't really boring your block like the old days. I think they stay around 10 thousandths and use a stroker kit for the xtra cubes. I am using a Fast, Vararam, mild 236/244/600 cam, headers, AFR225's, 390 gear thru stock mufflers and have 480/427 Tq. You may be close to that....I would guess (just a guess) 450-460. I didn't want the more radical cam because 90% of mine is street driving. I would have went with the smaller AFR heads but already had these.

been thinking about adding some cubic inches to my Z down the road. Any pros or cons with going with a 383ci vs 402ci engine. I see a lot of 400+ci ls2 based blocks from a lot of the vendors on here.
Pitman saw you run at z06fest. Your car is bada$$ and sounds great. It was cool to see you run that 11.1! Loved the way your car looks when it leaves the line.

Have you thought of a LS3 427 stroker? I want to stay NA. If not I would go FI right away. I have learned more is never enough. I am selling my ls6 short block, getting a LS3 short block with a Callies stroker assemby, adding my AFR 225 heads and fast 90/ls2tb along with a new cam. Keeping my ARH's and should get 525-550 rwhp and 500-525 rwtq.
Later on I will change to LS7 heads, a new intake and bigger headers. I plan on keepin my 03 ZO6 for along time.
Just my 2 cents as I had thought of a 383 build a while back. But your build does look good. Whatever you budget, it always costs a few bucks more.

Seems like 383s dont make much more power than 346s ???
Whats the advantage of 383s ?? I see alot of 346 now making around 470 with Trickflow heads and a big cam but most have good driveability.

Anymore it makes sense to do a 402/408 for about the same price. You get better head options/results...

I will be able to give you guys detail on the 383 vs 402 shortly. I am starting to put together my 402 for my Silverado this weekend. It has basically identical parts except Pete Incaudo designed this cam for more torque and he ported\polished my Fast.
Check it out...12.88 @ 105 with 328 rwhp. The new motor should be around 480. That will be 150 additional rwhp..hoping the truck will at least hit high-high 11's.

You can't judge the 383 by what people post alone. Some are running large cams and better heads and others want a more streetable version. Tony Mamo has lots of info on this and actally tested and posted the numbers for everyone. I don't remember what the most was but it was over 525 I believe. The 383 will put good numbers down if you want to go that radical.
I agree to go with the 418 or 402 if you can afford it. They arent that much more but some of us just have a limit or as in my case already had heads so I couldbn't go to the 418. I was trying to get my Z back as cheap as possible and still gain a little bit of power. I went up 47 rwhp just changing to the stroker kit and a little bit more cam. After getting it back, I am glad I didn't go all out because I still do mostly street driving and just don't need 525+ rwhp with this 390 gear. First and second gears are usless right now. Just my opinion.
Search for Tony Mamo's 383 info...he has done it all !!

ok so I am purchasing a Corsa Pace car Exhaust, and 90/90 TB intake manifold. I intend on picking up some 1 7/8 headers as well. Is 500RWHP looking any better?

Does your invoice read $1,650 to port LS6 heads? If it does you may want to spring for AFR 205's to help meet your goals. I agree that you should consult Tony Mamo.
