Default c6z stock vs. C5z modded

Why is it that a c6z stock can pull on a c5z pushIng 440-450rwhp in a straight line? Is it just gearin? From what I know the c5z's are almost 100lbs lighter than the c6z stock. I would like to know why the c6z tends to beat on the c5z I also know that the driver could play a factor.

I had a 04Z with headers, intake, and tune. It sounded and felt fast. It was in someways more fun than the 2008Z I have now. The 08 is smoother and has much different transmission gearing, not as quick reving in gears 1-3. Still, the 08Z just has such long legs and just pulls to7,000 RPM's so fast it takes you by suprise everytime. Mine is still stock but with AR headers, intake and some tuning I can't imagine. Even the 08 stock and the 04 with modes I don't think it would be close. That 100 horses and 427 cubes is just too much. But, I wish I had kept the 04Z in my garage as well as the 08Z, live and learn.

How much power to the wheels does a C6z have?

The aero of a c6z probably more than makes up for the additional 100 pounds its carrying compared to a c5.

430 to 440rwhp for the C6Z in stock trim, which is easily attainable for a 346ci LS6 with moderate mods. However the torque a 427ci LS7 puts out under the curve combined with the 500 rpm increase in engine operating range is another story.

Not to say you cannot increase the usable rpm range of an LS6 as many have done this (myself included). It is just hard if not impossible to duplicate the torque curve of a 427 with a 346 without a power adder.

At that power level (440-450rwhp) a C5Z should be pretty evenly matched for a stock C6Z (slight edge to the C6Z due to torque & traction). Driver will play a big role.

If you overlay the two dyno graphs, you will see the C5Z has to have a peaky cam to put out that much power while the C6Z's power curve is broader and longer (it revs higher.) In essence the C6Z will have much more average power (power under the curve.) Average power, not peak power is what wins races, given similar weight, gearing etc.

^^^^ well put
"there's no replacement for displacement", well maybe forged induction will do the job but i'd get 427ci.. i test drove them both (considering that i've got headers+xpipe+vararam+tune),C6 Z is faster but C5 Z is also faster
than a lot of cars on the street

The "under the curve" horsepower/torque from an LS7 is formidable, but a N/A 346 can be built to compete.

And do not under estimate the roll the taller gearing combined with the 19" rear wheels makes.

Even with my 600rwhp/530rwtq 427ci 7000rpm LS7 powerplant, I need to be on my game to run and gun with a similarly modded C6 Z.

The key seems to be that even with the same motor and mods, at any point in rhe RPM range a C6 Z06 is pulling more MPH (covering more ground) than a stock geared 18" rear wheel C5 Z can.

The bottomline is that the C6 Z is a really clever package even stock, and when modded is phenominal.

The gearing, power, aero and wheel package work really well together.

I have a bit more tyre? I have a C5 Z, with 335/30/18's vs the stock C6 Z's 325.

This is an interesting topic. In a couple of years when my modded C5Z is older and the C6Z's are cheaper, I'll probably buy one...and mod that one too

I was just talking about this today, while I love my c6z I really do miss the feel of the c5z. You said exactly what I was thinking. The power in the new one is nuts though!

As much as I like the 08Z, and the power and creature comforts, I know now I should have worked harder to keep my 04Z along side the new one. The C5 Z's are more fun than I thought until I did without it for awile. I only have 1,000 miles on the new one, we have not bonded enough I guess
