Do you want a dealer or aftermarket performance shop?

For a dealer there is Hendricks in Cary. Sponsors one of the local Corvette clubs ( corvettes International ). They have two corvette mechanics there for general things

Never go to a dealer for any performance work on your vette. They have certain things they must follow.

Sir Walter Chevrolet off Glenwood sponsors the second Raleigh Corvette club, RTP Corvettes.

Performance shops:
Mayhem Motosports off Germantown road between Cary and Raleigh.

RPM in Garner

Carolina Auto Masters in Durham

Thanks, I will call the independent shops that you guys listed. I was looking for a shop to do performance work and install aftermarket parts.

for performance work, i would HIGHLY recommend RPM in Garner. I used to work mainly with fords, but doing my research, found RPM to be an outstanding shop. i have also dealt with Haywoods custom speed in Durham, Fastlane in Benson, and Carolina Auto masters in Durham. i have close friends that prefer the other shops. mine is RPM.

more information can be found on www.Horsepowerjunkies.com as most of the above mentioned are supporting vendors.

if you end up with CAM, let me know. Sean, the owner of Top Shelf Performance (shop.topshelfperformance.com) can probably hook you up as he is a parts distributor for CAM.

ya i would steer away from carolina auto masters....wouldnt think twice about RPM in garner, mayhem would do the job as well....for tuning i would stick with RPM
of course this is coming from a guy that does all the work on my own car including tuning

Pilot bearing is raising hell. When I fix it I am going to put a new clutch assy in at the same time. Since the dealer will not install aftermarket stuff I need a good independant. Sucks to have to do this at 35000 miles. I also am looking to maybe do a cam, headers and dyno work in the future.

I have heard some bad stuff recently about CAM also. Can't remember exactly what it was but it was definitely more that one thing. I have never heard anything bad about RPM. Mooresville is a bit of a drive from Raleigh, but I have taken my last two LS cars to Nick Williams. Those guys are top notch.

do a search on www.horsepowerjunkies.com

people have some horror stories about his tuning. also, i think one of his employees took a customers car for a ride and totalled it. and it was not the first time employees have driven a customers car. just the first time something that bad happened.

that being said, the little business i have done with him has been good. sometimes i do wonder how much experience his employees have, but Jeff seems to be very knowledgeable.

I have had very good luck with CAM. Did a far better job in tuning then most shops.

Too many guys read forums or ads as gospel and get up set when the hot set up does not come close to what some one else posted on other forums, LS1 tech or HPJunkies are great forums, but many of the dyno postings arnt SAE corrected so they run very high and not even clsoe to reality, nor do their times come in where they throught.

Problems with poor times is the driver skill, more importantly the lack of driver skill.

remember guys dynos are for tuning only and should be a before and after comparison. Not to other cars tuned in other shops.

I let CAM tune both of my Z06s. Never had a bit of problems with it. Maybe it isn't sucking out the last 1HP. But isn't grenading my engine either. By the same token I haven't let him do internal engine work and as of late have heard enough to concern me.

Also from looking on HorsePower Junkies before. That is just a pissing contest forum of CAM haters. They are all RPM biggots. Whether justified or not it is a heavily biased forum. I don't waste my time on it.

Does not matter to me about CAM. I am not driving to Durham for work anyway. I live in garner and RPM is about 15 min. from my house. I will call them or Mayhem. Thanks for the replys.

I've not dealt with any shop yet, bone stock still.

I thank everyone for the info as well. I from the Bull City is why I ask.

BTW, I've never been to Horsepowerjunkies but
"They are all RPM biggots"
made me laugh for some reason. Thanks for that too.
