[Z06] How can I tell if I have steel or aluminum shift forks?
#2
If your trans is the original trans they should be steel.
Al were on 01 and early 02's i believe and I don't think there's a way to tell by looking at the trans. It would have to be taken apart.

It's the second half of 03's I just found out. And he didn't say that, he said if I have the *original* I would have steel. The *original* have aluminum.

If you really want to know, pull your transmission out, take it apart and stick a magnet on it. And the in the second post the guy said if you have an 01 or early 02 then you would have an aluminum one stonk and then after that it would be steel, so if you have an 03 you have a steel one.

Yes, it's the original trans. However, they made the switch in mid '03, not '02.

What is considered mid year? 03 Production started in July 02 so does that mean cars built in January 03 have the steel shift forks?

Steel forks
I think I remember seeing that the break point on the forks was around 111xxx. This was about the same time as the change in the fuel system. My 03 is 110xxx so I have the aluminum forks and the older fuel system. The fuel system is confirmed by the codes on the glove box. I have no code for FFS which is the newer fuel system.
