1st time doing 1/4 mile....13.8@107mph ???
How bad is that? Car is 100% stock 2004 Z06...60 foot time was 2.4 seconds and trap speed was 107 mph...This is in Vegas at 2200 feet with temps in the 60s..
I'm assuming high 12s would be the cars potential out here.
Need to practice launch.

Pretty bad. Most of your problem is in your launch, altitude will not affect that. Get your 60' to 2 secs or less and nail your shifts and you'll see your times in the mid 12's.

Yes this is no different then any other kind of racing or even sport for that matter. Practice makes perfect. You cant expect to pull a cars full potential your first time out. I remember when i first went to a drag strip i was a good second and a half slower then the "tested" time. As i got more seat time, my drag time slowly got faster. Just keep having fun and talk to more experienced drivers and ask them for suggestions and to maybe even ride along with you to help give you first hand pointers!

How old are your tires? I have been down the track more than once in numerous cars and in my z06 with factory 2003 good year f1 supercars my car was almost undriveable at its first track outing... tons of spinning and wheelhop no matter how I eased into the throttle in first or second- and yes, I read rangers advice and tried it- but when you are on marbles for tires it really doesn't matter. I got a 13.2 @ 111 mph with also a 2.4 60'... I'd say you are down on power by about 50 hp or so but that could be the elevation as your mph seems low... if you are on six year old tires that is your issue.
my dad and I with fresh run flat tires in his 08 vette the same day pulled 1.9 and 2.0s all day long- his is an automatic, true but we couldn't even get them to spin and his tires are only 265s with 436 hp (less gear as it is an automatic) but we were brake launching it at 1500 rpm.

The LS3/Auto cars are pretty sweet.

Get the DA by adding the air pressure and humidity to see the overall DA.
I would think that in that air, you should trap 112-114ish. The first time out, I ran 12.4-12.6's at 113-114mph with a 1550ft DA, bone stock. Quick shifting 2nd and espcecially 3rd gear can hurt your ET and MPH. Make sure you are winding out 3rd gear. The best 60ft I have got out of the stock tires was a 1.79.
My best advice is to find stop light or empty parking lot that is safe and away from traffic and that has some traction(concrete, not asphalt). Practice slipping the clutch until you feel the car launch with out spinning or bogging the car. Just 0-40mph will do. You might have to alter your RPM's to get the feel of it, then take it to the track and don't worry about who you are racing. Sit and let them go and try to focus on your launch. Here are 3 videos of me on 18 inch DR's. DA on all runs was +1100 to 1600ft. Sorry about the narator.
1. I bogged the car off the line, resulting in a 1.89 60ft.

2. Spun the car, resulting in a bad 1.94 60ft.

3. Got the correct slip and a 1.72 and 1.74 60ft on these runs. 4th gear gave me problems on both runs and the tranny might need to be replaced. 7.66 and 7.73 in the 1/8.

Just need to work on the driver mod.... As everyone else said.
My first time out in my 01 Z06, the best I ran was a 12.8@111 with my very first run in the car being a 13.1@104. Track temp was 156 degrees, but.... Haha.
Waited until it got alil cooler out and ran it again and ran a 12.4@115....
This was completely stock too on stock F1s.
Youll get there.

Trap speed seems pretty low...even with the DA at 2200ft. Is everything healthy? No fried clutch, burnt plug wires or false knock? Otherwise, I agree with the other folks to practice your launch...

Let's not jump to any conclusions that there is anything wrong with the car until he is driving well and still getting bad times.
Case in point, back when I had a 99 cobra I improved 6mph with nothing but driving.

Jumping on the band wagon, you certainly have room for improvement - which is part of the fun in owning a Z06. I am not a drag racer but I competed in a NCCC drag event in OKC and ran a 12.61 - don't remember the trap speed. But don't feel bad, I have seen alot of guys on Pinks all-out on national TV really blow it coming out of the hole...

Just keep practicing pal. My first time out in my 01Z , I was posting mid 12s, in 55 degree midwest weather. (Nov). Altitude in Vegas could be a factor but not a huge one. As one gentleman suggested, the tires could be a part of the problem. Its still early in the year to be able to crack the 12s. But June/July, not so much on a stock motor.

Pretty bad. Is this your first manual sports car? I would expect a stock z with a poor track outing to post at least 12.9 or 13 flat. Feel free to update this thread when you get a 12.3 sec run. good luck.

It takes practice for lots of folks.. To others it comes naturally, however those people are in the minority.. The more power you have the harder it gets and then throwing in a manual transmission further complicates things.... If we were all racing a stock Chevy Blazer with an auto tranny.. I would expect just about everyone should run a 16.2@84mph.. Practice,Practice,Practice.. Work on those 60' times.. Without a good launch, its a wasted run.. You might as well let off the gas... I've been there and done that.. Everyone has a bad launch here and there and practice is your best friend
