Default High oil pressure at WOT

I've been noticing lately that when I give my 03 Z06 throttle, the oil pressure rises with the RPM's. I never noticed this before and I wanted to know if it was normal. It never goes below 40psi, and at max RPM's before shift it goes up to about 70psi. The oil temp is normal, and I never go into high RPM's without the car being warmed up. Is this normal?

Thanks for the reply. My only concern is that even at around 2-3k rpm's, the PSI is going to 50psi. It just seems a tad high.

I wouldn't worry too much. Oil pressure depends on a number of factors, one of which is the type of oil you use. Your sensor might also be faulty which happens quite often. Best way might be to connect a gauge and test it out. What grade oil do you use?

Little high, but that is not a bad thing.

Do you have a cam in the car maybe someone installed a ported oil pump?

Also pressure will change depending on the weight of oil you use. Higher weight = More oil pressure

Maybe the car has either a ported stock oil pump or an aftermarket one.
I had a Melling oil pump installed when I did the cam swap and those pressure readings are what I see normally. Shouldn't be a problem, just make sure to keep a check on oil level and you will be fine.

The oil was just changed yesterday at Chevrolet. I'm assuming they use the manufacturers specs as far as oil. I can't find my paperwork right now, so I can't see what they have down.

Mods are a possibility. As far as I know the car is stock, I bought it with 3k miles, 4 years ago. However, it did come with lloyds mats and a shorty antenna, so more modifications are possible.

The car runs and sounds fine, so I'm sure this is normal, but for some reason I've never noticed the oil pressure changing before so I thought I'd ask. Thanks for the replies everyone, they are greatly appreciated!

the oil pressure sensors in these cars are known to be sort of junk. so if it's a bit high it could just be an inaccurate reading from the sensor...

Note that the pressure will read higher when the oil hasn't completely warmed up either, since it's viscosity will be higher. It WILL vary depending on temp. From what I see, you're fine.

Normal. I see ~ 70 psi max at near redline with oil temp at 200 deg F on my 2002 Z06.

My 02' pegs at 80# if the car is not warmed up and it was a nice day out andafter about 1 minute out of the garage I gunned it at a light somewhat and noticed the high oil pressure and thought to myself that I should of let it warm up more even though it was in the low 70's outside.
The oil pressure is somewhat lower if it is warmed up! My car is modified alittle too!
