I posted this in C5 tech but thought I should post here since my tires were for my Z06.

I just recently bought a set of Continental ExtremeContact DW's. I noticed one of the tires has a date code of 4309 (Oct 19-25, 2009) while the others are a few months later (all 2010).

I got to admit this bugs me a little that the tire is already over a year old.

Question for you all: How old were your tires when you bought them new? Would you push for the vendor to give you a different tire?

any tire I buy I look at the date codes and if over 6 months old I get new ones, otherwise I refuse/reject anything older than 6 months old.

Yeah, I guess at this point, I would have to try and return the tire.

I can't recall every tire but I've seen 6 months old for sure. I've also recieved some that are only a few months old. Over 1 year sucks. Wish one could specify the date on the order but with internet orders you can't. Maybe the phone is old fashioned but keeping a human being in the loop would probably help.

I bought them from Tire Rack, I'm going to call their customer service tomorrow.

The difference in performance/durability of a 1 year old tire vs 6 month old tire is insignificant. Even a 3 year old tire... assuming they are stored properly in a warehouse.

Well, one of the tires is 16 months old. I understand what you are saying, but I'm only averaging 3-4K a year on my Z, so I'd prefer the newest rubber possible.

Update: Thanks for all the responses. Tire Rack is going to try to find a "newer" tire and ship it to me. There customer service was good. I will see if they can find another one, otherwise will mount this one and move on.

It is my understanding after some recent study that there are 2 important things to know when it comes to tire age:
1) Tires age much differently when stored properly with a quality tire distributor like Tirerack. It's nice that they just exchanged the tire rather than trying to convince you the tires were fine even though they probably were. Customer Service is not always about being correct.
2) 6-10 years seems to be the recommended age limit for tires. On a sports car I'd rather be safe than sorry though. I just noticed mine are about 5 years old and I can see the signs of dry rot creeping in already so I've started shopping myself.

By the way, there is a company selling 295/35/18 Vredestein Ultrac Sessentas for $208 each shipped. PM me if you are shopping I'll share, and no this is not an advertisement; I don't sell tires nor do I know anyone who does although that would be nice.

If you could, send me a picture of how those tires look once you get them on. I have drag radials in the back now and they don't last very long so I'm going to be needing a new set of rears.

I just had the Vreds yesterday.... I'll take a picture tomorrow. I found them cheaper than $208 shipped. AFS wheels...

AFS must have changed the price since you ordered because I just looked up my 295/35/18 rears and they are $209 each plus $15 shipping. Fronts at 275/40/17 stock size are $358 plus $15 shipping. The fronts are almost as much as I found the rears for. I guess I'm allowed to say it: Group A Wheels.
