Default Issue after Vararam VR-B2 instal

hey guys my car is a 2002 Z06 with 16k miles.. i got the car about 2 months ago and decided to start moding the small things. did some research and decided on the Vararam. after the instal i noticed the car does run smoother and has more power but surges slightly when cruising around town with my foot barely on the throttle any ideas? im thinking tune.

You don't need to tune it, for a Vararam mod.
It takes a while for the computer to reprogram.
Things will be fine after a few hours of drive time.
Great mod by the way

Tuning will take care of any Vararam issues, but you might want to wait, if you have more engine mods planned for the near future.

Have you cleaned the Maff?
Are you sure that there are no air leaks in the V/R system?
All the clamps nice & tight?
What filter is in it? If oiled maybe too much?

Mine did that for a while and I had to get it tuned. It even did it after the tune when the wind would get real bad around where I live. But a tune will help you out but like stated before if you plan on doing other stuff then wait.

Mine slapped on just fine, no tune. My friends surged exactly like you stated. He got his tuned. Kinda sucks to buy an expensive air intake, and still need a tune.

First you spend good money to mod an already good running car and now you need to spend even more money to get it running nice like before you started. good Luck

still gotta check for those air leaks but i didnt have any when i installed it and checked everything.. and as for too much oil on the filter i took it straight out of the wrapper and put it in.. didnt seem to be excessivly oiled at all from my experiences with K&N's and other filters as for MAF being descreened do these ones even have screens? didnt see one in mine thought it was weird and maybe the LS6 just didnt have a screen from the factory considering the guy who had it before me knew nothing about cars and it just sat in his garage

LS6 did not come with screen. I had to put in the Haltec screen in mine to smooth it out.

NastyZ-2001 ls/6 was last year they had the screen in the maf, so that's not an issue with the op's 02 Z.
Did you by chance touch the hair thin wires within the Maf w/anything other than Maf cleaner?
What system do you use between the throttle body & V/Ram?
Did you leave the Maf in the original location?
Is the air tube connected to the top portion (drivers side) of the V/ram air box lid?

I had trouble too. Got a haltech screen AND a tune and still have idle surging when slowing
down for a light. Car stumbles a little too. Might be a damaged maf.

Best fix.... Tune. I waiting to get longtubes, x-pipe and cat-back before I went with my tune but it's the most "complete" way of doing it. Car will run smoother, stronger, better gas mileage, etc.

nope didnt touch the MAF with anything but MAF cleaner.. it in the stock location. i bought the Vararam bridge but that thing is an epic pile of crap... i sat there for almost an hour thinking that im a moron and wasnt reading the instructions correctly because i couldent get the MAF to go into the bridge.. then i went online and read where others had to actually heat it up with a heat gun just to get it to go in. mine was so bad there wouldent be enough lube in the world to get that thing in..

and yes the air tube is connected

Add a haltech maf screen suppose to smooth out the air going through the maf.
i put lg super pros w/ high flow cats and x pipe, vararam, and a maf screen in the fall on my 04 and have put about 200 mile on two week ago and about 400 miles total since the install and have not gotten any code at all so far (no tune yet) also i did not install the power duct its not worth the time and headaches very minimal gains if any plus it causes codes more often JMO

This is what I did and you should do a AF Trim reset and find a long dead road and do a couple of hard pulls in third and fourth gear. The car will learn it.

I did this with mine with a screen from HALLTECH ($40) and a I installed one on my buddies 2002 Z and did the pulls with no screen and he is good to go also.
