Have you checked the clearance of your wheels for the Big Brakes? Just checking as the diameter of the wheel in no way itself means brakes will clear, has all to do with the spoke design.

I purchased my HRE wheels through L.G. Motorsports.

Anthony at LGM took my new wheels and mounted them on Lou's ZR1 to ensure that they cleared the ZR1 brake assemblies. They clear with room to spare.

I know you're taking a lot of flak for this, but I think it's cool. More power to you.

You should definitely do a build thread on your car if you have not. It would also be cool to see it match up against a C6 ZR1.

Agreed, I'm very excited to see the progress of your car. Do you have any more pictures of your car besides the sig pic? Which model/finish HREs are you getting?

Best of luck!

Bill,

I will take some pictures of my Z06 when I take it out of winter storage at the end of this month.

I purchased chromed 893R HRE wheels. The fronts are 19 x 10 inches. The rears are 20 x 12 inches.

I drove a 2011 ZR1 on the Monticello's track at full fury and I can definitely say, those brakes are worth every penny! Ridiculous braking system on that car that just continued to amaze me the harder I pounded on them. I'd LOVE to do this upgrade on my car, its just justifying the cost over a C6Z setup, which in many ways I think are very close to "as impressive". You can't deny the exotic nature of carbon brakes though...very elite.

Looks like it's gonna work. Should be a great addition, and I'm with 'ya on the C5Z's body style. I hope to keep mine until I can't drive it.

Sounds expensive, and like a TON of overkill, and I would NEVER EVER IN MY LIFE do this. Complete waste of money.

I do however fully support your endeavor to do this, and demand that you post pics, and a FULL written review when you get it done. Should be awesome!!!

(P.S.- If I had $8k to spend on brakes I totally would)

The following data shows the part descriptions, part numbers, quantities necessary, and the total cost of the parts needed to install C6 ZR1 ceramic brakes on a C5:

Over on the Autocross and Roadracing forum they stated that Spring Mountain Driving School is reporting 5,000 to 6,000 all-out track miles on pads and 12,000+ miles on the rotors. This is an order of magnitude better than iron rotors and their pads.

please explain how this an order of magnitude better when replacement carbon ceramic rotors cost 5k and iron rotors are much much cheaper than that
