Default What oil to use: Please Help!

I am due for a fluid change for the transmission on my 2003 ZO6, and need help as to what fluid to use. I am confused.

The service manager at my local chevy dealer told me I can use either the GM Dexron VI ATF, OR the GM Manual Transmission and Transfer Case Fluid GM Part# 88861800 that is used for the factory fill in the 2005 and newer ZO6 Corvettes.

For those of you who have had a recent fluid change in your C-5 ZO6transmission, what was used, or what did you use, and what is the fluid capacity of the Tremic T-56 Transmission.

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

All the best,

yellowlpezo6

You'll probably get a lot of replies and opinions and luckily there are a lot of good options available. I've been using the old standard Dexron, but, I'm getting ready to switch to Pennzoil Synchromesh synthetic at my next change in a few weeks. I've read lots of good stuff about that fluid and I'm hoping that my experience will be the same as others that have tried it.
Good luck!!
I think the tranny holds a little less that 4 quarts of fluid. The bottom of the fill plug hole is the correct level so you pretty much keep adding untill it begins to trickle out. Make sure the car is level as you're adding the fluid. Really easy to do.

make sure you CAN open the fill hole before you use the drain hole to empty the trans.

That's a really important point that imavettegirl brings up. Be sure to do this!! Same goes for when you get around to changing the diff lube as well.

I use Amsoil products exclusively in both my race car and street cars, and have never had an issue.

Here's a link to the product recommendations. There is also a fluid capacity chart near the end.

PM me if you have any further questions.

Good luck!

I recently had transmission and differential work done by a Forum sponsor. They told me that they built some transmissions for a Vette that had over 1,000 rwhp.

The only manual trans fluid that would keep the gear set from burning up was ROYAL PURPLE SynchroMax. I use it and my trans is quiet and smooth.

I use Amsoil in all my equipment and used the Amsoil Torque drive in the Z06. I also ended up changing the rer end fluid to Amsoil Severe Gear 75w-90. Amsoil makes a 75w-110 and 140 for harder duty racing but the 90 is what I use in my low-mid 9 second Anglia gasser and worked out great.
