[Z06] What Do you dont like about your Z06
#2
Without doubt the PIECE OF CRAP interior ESPECIALLY the steering wheel, I plan on redoing all of it, the setting the stock parts on fire. Also the CD player which is clearly outdated and sometimes skips tracks. Pretty much most of interior except gauges, heads up display, and the seat memory.
The best part by far about the car is the power, handling, and looks, and guess what that's way more important than the cheap interior of the car.

The piece of crap SEATS! What were these engineers thinking? With all that auto-x testing you would think they would find these seats as terribly unsupportive and with the ****** rubber bushings going bad the damn seats MOVE! I have never been in a car that has loose stock seats. Embarrassment to American engineering. We are getting A LOT better as time passes though! =)

I like the interior a lot....though I'm 6'1" and skinny, plenty of room and while its not as cool as a '11 Mustang inside, its still quite nice and in most respects better then my E36 M3. (though I like its seats even better...adjustable under leg bolsters!)
Don't like the heat radiated from the underneath (M3 has same issue) or the road noise. And needs a subwoofer!

Stock shifter has way too long of a throw, and the **** is ugly/uncomfortable. The 1-4 skip shift is super lame, too. Fortunately these are all cheap and easy to fix.
What's not cheap and easy to replace is the steering wheel (too big) and the stock seats (no lateral support).
The interior styling is a little bland but it really doesn't bother me at all. It's an American sports car that we're driving... it's not a luxury car and it's not German or Italian.
Oh, the wheel well gaps are also too wide from the factory. It looks much better lowered and/or with bigger wheels.

I didn't like the stock shifter, cd player, and the sound system...so I replaced and upgraded all of them. I honestly like the interior. I've never gotten in my Z06 and thought, 'damn this is an ugly interior'. I'm 6'2" & 215lbs and have been on many 5+ hr road trips and I stay pretty comfortable. Me loves my Z.

EBCM, interior, stereo, overall fit and finish, cost to maintain in my first 2 months has been CRAZY expensive. I am at the point now that if the car doesn't become reliable and stop costing me money that I am going to regret having bought one and selling my immaculate and 100% reliable SRT8. I really didn't think that there was any way I could get a Vette with this many issues, this quickly.

I am perfectly happy with mine at this point. This is my second Z and both have been stock.

If it's NOT "perfect" then its pretty damn close! And, it's the best "bang for the buck" car on the planet
My 04 is almost 8 years old, and it's STILL one of the fastest, best handling cars available. Can you name another 8 year old car that can run with it......at any price?

2002 Dodge Viper GTS? (from wikipedia)
Performance (GTS)Dodge Viper second generation, phase II SR
0-60 mph (97 km/h): 4.0 sec[7]
0-100 mph (160 km/h): 8.6 sec[citation needed]
quarter mile: 12.2 sec @ 119 mph (192 km/h)[7]
top speed: 185 mph (298 km/h)[7]
slalom: 73.6 mph (118.4 km/h)[7]
skidpad average acceleration: 1.01 g (9.9 m/s²)[7]
Actually beats the z06 in top speed
But for the price , the z06 wins. Vipers cost almost double.
I have only put about 600 miles on my z06 but here is what I do not like so far:
-Rear tires seem to chew off like they are made of styrofoam
-CAGS (skip shift) is retarded. I have disabled it now so no longer an issue
-radio / sound system is not so great, despite the Bose speakers.
-Lots of road noise from the rear (to be expected)
-at 6'1" 185 lbs I am lanky, and I have very little clearance over the top of my head, making wearing a helmet troublesome if I decide to AutoX the car
-the stock seat clunks around and the butt bolsters are bad.
Thats about it really. Love that car all around, just listing the negatives as the thread states.

Anyone who thinks their C5Z is "perfect" needs to go sit inside a...well...sit inside anything else, really. Frickin' late model Hyundais have nicer interiors. LOL
Pretty much the interior is the only thing about my car I really don't like. That seems to be where I am doing the most upgrades (stereo, seats, shifter, steering wheel, shift boot/brake boot, added leather wrappings, etc.).

My biggest gripe on C5Zs is the climate control.
Because thats the only Cavalier parts bin item you can't replace easily!
Of course the seats, stereo, and shifter are all gross. But those can be upgraded.

I actually like the interior. You can upgrade just about any part of it if it doesn't suit you, and for far less $$$ than other "Sports cars". I keep breaking, or modifying the drivetrain parts, so my car has become a 9 year long science project, and only has 17k miles. It's on stands now, waiting for me to(again) drop the rear cradle to replace my diff, and upgrade the trans. Getting a brace this time. None of my woes were the car's fault. If I would have left it stock, I would probably only bitch about the shifter.
