Z06 on top over ZR1 test track
This is a good thread to get going on.,Road and Track tested all corvettes from mild to wild.volume 63 number 8.just recieved it in the mail. They tested standered corvette, grand sport,Z06 and ZR1.
The CR-6 was included in the test
The engineers preferred the Z06 overall due to its 50/50 balance on track, and the big block feel and power. .
The ZR1 may have been quicker at the Nurburgring, but Tommy Milner was about 1 sec. faster around spring mountain in the ZO6 than in the ZR1.
CR6 first 55 car lengths ahead Z06 , 7 cars back ZR1 ,Grand Sport 26 lengths regular corvette 59 lengths .
Z06 took the track compition hands down. The CR6 is the corvette that won at Lemans
on the straight 1/4 mile Z06 11.7 ZR1 11.5
for 30.000- more I cant see if the money is worth it
i have the Z06 always wondered if the difference is worth it.
Ther is a lot of testing info for all corvette owners Road and Track is a must for all of us get the magazine Great stuff. let the thread begin.
Thanks Richard Truman Milton Delware

Yeah, you'll probably get more chatter over there. Definitely interesting results, though.

C6R 5 lengths over Z06, not 55...haha...
Regardless of the section, this is still an interesting thing to hear about. Lots of C5Z guys are pondering C6Z's or C6ZR's....
I'm aching to get a C6Z but I love the FRC...killin me. I think about it everyday I think...lol.

Rechecked article C6.R was 55 cars ahead of the stock leader Z06
flowed by ZR1 7 cars back then GS 26 cars back then regular vet 59 cars
all fast in there own right The C6.R is the race car for the track only.
This car stuck better on track .

I saw this article and was surprised to see the z06 ahead of the zr1 also. What made this copy of the mag especially ironic to me was that 5 days prior to receiving it in the mail(been a subscriber for years), I had just accepted shipment on my first Vette, my new(to me) black 02 z06 I had shipped down to me from TX to the gulf coast in Alabama. I just thought it was hilarious that 5 days after receiving this car I walk to the mailbox and see my latest copy of r&t has a black c6 on the front and is titled "Corvette Fever". I told my wife that this just confirms it was meant to be.

I will have to look for this magazine later today. I would have thought that the ZR1 would have been the overall winner (other than the C6R). Especially with its time on the ring!!
Thanks for posting this here...I don't get over to the C6 Z06 section very often!!

I have driven the ZR1, C6Z, lots of C5Zs* and C5s Coupes* on VIRginia International Raceway and Road America.
the ZR1 had by far the higher top speed in the longer straights. BUT was MUCH HARDER to slow down for the next corners. yes one needs to start braking sooner from higher speeds.
However, the stock C6Z suspension, brakes and initial acceleration / throttle modulation allowed the C6Z quicker response on road course. Remember guys, Road course are mostly corners connected by short straights, and a few Longer straights.
That said, Neither of these cars were mine, so I only pushed those cars 70% of what I push my personal car. But 70% of the C6Z and ZR1 was almost as much as 100% in my modded C5.
* C5s in various mod and configurations to HP, suspension and aero packages
For those of us who track our cars, the consumable items, tires, brake pads, brake rotors, brake fluid, fluid changes every 2 to 4 events add up quickly.
19" tires are hard to find and very expensive, vs 18" all four corners. Most guys who do track C6Zs switch to 18" wheels and tires, Remove the stock C6Z brakes and replace with an other BBK set up for better braking and plus pad and rotor wear. StopTech, Brembo Racing or APRacing set ups are the most common.
tires last 2 to 3 events, then need to be replaced.
