I am ordering my kit but hoping at 20,000 miles on my 2002 Z06 that I got time to wait until after Christmas with normal daily driving...no track or harsh treatment.?
Mine is 06/02 build date.

Burning Brakes
I have 59k on my 02 but my build date is an early one @ 9/01. I haven't replaced mine yet either and that's not to say it still can't happen. I don't daily drive mine though either. I still plan on replacing mine also.

I just had one go on me last week. 2004 Z06, stock, daily driven, 29K miles and built 11/16/2003. Springs were raw with orange stripe. Replacing with part number 12499224 along with all new valve seals.

Whether its track driven or daily driver doesn't matter. They've broken during all regimes. Some guys while idling, some getting on the freeway etc. That's what makes it difficult to predict. There's no correlation between use and failure. In fact some have occurred at low mileage, others high mileage.

No matter how you slice, dice or analyze the data ... the bottom line IMO is that any 2002 or 2003 Z06 is high risk for valve spring failure, and the stock valve springs should be swapped out for reliable aftermarket springs. The peace of mind alone is worth the money involved ... not to mention the chances of destroying your engine from a valve spring failure are also gone.
For parts that are so reasonably priced for the new GM blue springs and intake/exhaust seals....and an engine that makes it fairly easy to complete the replacement without having to pull motor or anything to get to them all.....it is just prudent PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE and well worth doing rather than rolling dice on the alternative damage to engine if it happens. Dont go out drinking beer one weekend with the buddies or skip a track day or hold off on the new can of Pinnacle Sovereign and take care of the springs.

Had a broken spring 2 years ago, just now repairing
I had one break under normal driving conditions 2 years ago. Due to a new addition to the family, the repair was on the back burner for a long time. Just now getting around to replacing the engine with a GM performance LS376/480 crate motor. Engine swap was due to the piston grenading itself in the cylinder. The car is at the dealership, so I'll have to get the build date later, but I'm sure it's in the window. It's an 02 Z06 with 59000 miles on the clock. Only mod was a Vararam intake that came already installed on the car. Spring broke under mild acceleration while getting up to the speed limit on the interstate, no high revs at all. Really wish I had known about the spring issue, but I didn't, so now I'm paying the price. And that price is getting more expensive everyday! Hopefully I'll have everything together soon, though. I really miss driving her!

Hi,
Remembered this topic, but never got to read through it...
My EB Z is build may 17th 2002, so in the "danger zone".
Has about 55k miles on it and so far no problems! I am the 5th owner as far as I know... Previous 2 I know a little, they're no racers... I drive it hard sometimes but no real racing either... 10k miles so far... These include several Autobahn miles
Will search for some replacement springs this winter and replace them coming spring when I take the car out of storage...
PAC 1218 is the way to go if I'm correct... no mayor mods in the future besides a vararam

I'm about to have my valve spring replaced with new LS2/LS3 springs.
Henderson Performance in New Braunfels, TX recommended those for OEM replacements and Comp Cams 26918 as an upgrade.
This is strictly preventative on a bone stock car, 15k miles. I'm not ever planning to swap out the cam so I'm thinking of just going with the new OEM LS2/LS3 spring.
I just wanted to throw that out there and see how that sounds to you guys.
Regards

Just to make sure I am interpreting the VINs right. I am looking at an '04 but has the last 5 of 20724. Did they start over on the last 4 digits for the '04 year because just looking at your graph and based on my VIN number, it looks like I should be in the danger zone with the '02 models.
