Default Headers

I am planning on headers and was wondering if it is a good idea to replace my starter at the same time. Is it true that with the header install the starter can not be removed without also removing the header?

Is there somthing wrong with the starter?? As far as i know, these cars dont have issues with the starter persay. Its more battery draw issues, that CAN be starter related but man, honestly if you have nothing of the sort going on then id leave it alone.

No reason to replace if your not having an issue.

Yes it is true, the long tube headers would be in the way to remove/install the starter.

You would also have to disconnect the X pipe too.

It would also be a perfect time to install a heat shield/blanket wrap on the starter.
It would be practically impossible to install one, once the headers are tightened & in place.

It is a fact, that your car is now over a decade old, with many starts on your original starter ?

It would make perfect sense to install a new GM starter & heat wrap, prior to the header install.

When the starter goes out, it doesn't matter if you have headers or not. You are stranded
Your car would be in the need of a flat bed, to the proper location to get the car high enough, in order to install a new starter...
( safely )

If you can afford a new starter, it would the wise thing to do.

You could always sell the old one for 30% to 50% less than the new starter cost.
Good luck with your decision

Little bit of drift here but, can't you push start a z if your starter goes out? Trying to learn something here. Could always bump start my other manual tranny cars.
