Hi Chris,
:seeya Welcome to the forum. I'm a fairly new member as well.
My 98 coupe is my very first Vette. The trouble is now that I've been hanging around other C5 owners, I want Z06 performance in a convert.......
There is so much good info. here, enjoy.

sure, GM puts a restrictor in the hydraulic clutch line. What it does is if you start using the clutch excessively (like row'n gears around a road couse over and over in and out of corners, on and off the pedal, or drag racing over and over in a short period of time) the presure will get weaker and weaker so that the clutch will not completely engage after a while. The design is if the clutch does not completely engage it will slip slightly and will minimize trans and diff breakage in that sort of abuse. You have felt what i am talking about. When you first drive your car after it has sat over night you can slam gears, the clutch fully engages so it feels like it really rips. Ever notice how you can spin the tires in the first 3 gears in the morning. Then you go out and drive the hell out of it for an extended period of time (maybe a long windy road or a road course) and it becomes harder to spin them on shifts and just does not slam you in the seat as hard. It does not really feel like a bad clutch slip just not as possitive of a engagment. You will also notice the pedal gets soft. I have talked to engineers from Chevy and they say that chevy looks at it like this. If the trans brakes they will have to warranty it, but the clutch is not coverd under warranty so if you burn up the disk it keeps the dealers service dept busy on the customers dime. Aint that a bitch?! well you go in and drill it out. took me about 2 hours and a 6 pack. that is also what the upshift retard in the cal does. Basically the computer calibration will pull lead out (ignition timing advace) right at clutch engagement after the tach reaches redline on a upshift. So when you drop the clutch after making the shift the power of the engine is pulled back a little. Then it will fully advance as it revs toward redline in that gear. it then repeats this into the next gear. hook up a tech two and take it for a ride. You can see it pull out lead on every upshift if you are redline'n it!

Thanx I'll pass that info on to Swimmer he had the same problem the other night at the drags. After two or three passes his clutch got real spungy and had a hard time going into fourth gear. The next day all he did was bleed the system and every thing was back to normal. Sounds like you got the fix.
