My Z Christmas Present
So I used to own a 94 C4, and frequented that forum, enjoying the enormous support over there of like minded Vette drivers. And then in July I drove an 04 Z06 and was smitten.......so the wife said sell the old one and I could replace it with a Z!!
Sold the 94 in October to Matt. I'm sure he is still enjoying it, although it is probably tucked up for the winter in MI.
I started looking for an electron blue Z because I had visited BuyaVette in Atlanta and they had the Z16 parked next to an electron blue and there was no doubt the EB was just plain gorgeous.
After looking at numerous cars on ebay, cars.com, this forum and more I discovered one in Wichita with only 6,992 miles, never driven in the rain, absolutely as new with no mods. I kept looking at it, showed wifey, drooled, dreamed and wished.
I read all I could about the Z, whether buying one that had seen such little use was wise, and after popping out on an errand came home to a card from my wife with a picture of the car in it. She had bought it for me! Wow....But the story is not over because as I started working out how to get it home I noticed the thread about the valve springs and realized that I would never be comfortable driving it if the original springs had not been replaced.
Steve, the owner then did the most amazing thing. I called and told him of my concerns, and he listened and then read the thread and called me back agreeing that he too would want the springs replaced, and since we had paid the asking price he would have the springs replaced at his own expense, by a certified Chevrolet dealership who he had done business with before. So two weeks later I drove the car 760 miles home to Nashville, of which at least 500 miles was in a monsoon, and it didn't melt
First impressions...Holy Cow!! What a car. Compared to the 94 it is a quantum leap in technology. Crazy fast, smooth, quieter, better fuel consumption, and I love the interior, the way the doors close, the way the hood opens, the whoosh noise as the trunk is closed...Yep, I am in love
I cannot imagine needing more power, but many of you seem to do that. Give me more time with the car and I may revisit that, but really, not likely to happen to this car
I've done the double d mod to the radio so my ipod works, and I'm going to put a trunk divider in, but that is about it. So here's a picture, cos we know it never happened without a pic!

Thanks guys. The C4 was my DD and airport car, but I just cannot bring myself to leave this in an uncovered lot for 4 days at a time. It still smells like new!
Need to go on a performance driving course to learn how to handle this thing...any recommendations?

Congratulations on a great looking car. Electron blue is one of my favorite colors too.
It is quite different from your C4. They really have a different feel to them between the C4's and C5's. I like both. I currently have 2 C5's and I was looking at your Admiral Blue. It was a very nice car too. (I wound up getting another C4. A Dark Red Metallic '95 6 speed)
Enjoy the new car!

Congrats ... wow, only 7K miles and all stock (even down to the 3 ft antenna) - can't beat that! I didn't see where you said what year the one you bought was. I'm assuming an '02 or '03 if you were concerned about the valve springs. Good move there ... probably the most important thing to do on these cars. As other have said, EB is awesome (have an '02 myself).

It is an 02. It stills smells new inside. When I put my license plate on for the drive home the PO made sure I aligned the screw slots! He also made me feel bad when I licked the sucker cup to mount my gps to get me home!!
He had detailed the car for me, including taking the wheels off and cleaning the inside. It is as if I bought a brand new car. It was supposed to be my DD but I just cannot bring myself to drive it when it is wet.......Best Xmas present I ever got. Best car I ever owned
