Was wondering if it was normal to have some slight play in the stock shifter assembly. For example if it is in gear, the shifter can move in all directions about half a centimeter.

I have a stock shifter in my 2003 Z06 that my mechanic reinstalled after experiencing really "stiff" shifting with a Hurst shifter. I find that there's not much play in 1st through 5th gear. I do notice a bit more play in 6th gear - and the shift **** vibrates enough to make noise. I'm going to use some Lok-Tite on the threads and ensure that the metal tab in the stock **** is hammered down tight - hopefully that will solve the vibration problem.

Installed a slightly used C6 Shifter (shorter throw, angled back towards you makes it more comfortable) 2yrs ago and no play. (and it looks like it was made for the car too!) The stock shifter looks and shifts like something from a Truck. Upgrade and enjoy proper shifting in a performance car.....
