GM may have overreached with the 2015 Z06 automatic convertible. Why must there always be a time when you have to appeal to a lowest common denominator. This new Z06 concept will devalue what took many years to build. In a few years when you say that you have a Z06, people will ask you "is it automatic? Convertible?"

As far as the person who asked about c4zr1 owners disliking the blower on the c6—they can't have an opinion on the matter considering that blasphemous lt5 they have under the hood. That's kinda a car that doesn't really fit in with the corvette name either. That's kinda why I wish this new z06 was called the zr1—which seems to be chevy's bonkers unconventional vette. Make the zr1 a hybrid, twin turbo, v6, mid engine, automatic, CVT for all I care, but the z06 should have been kept as it was originally. Granted, my opinion doesn't really matter, and I still hope the new vette does well and keeps Chevy out of trouble.

You do know that in a recent road test by C&D, the new 8sp Auto was quicker than the 7sp Manual in the regular C7. Now I'm a manual guy, but it opens up a wicked car to a much larger owner base.
Other thing, making a car stiffer adds weight, as do all the airflow measure, downforce add-ons, magnetic ride, leather all over, etc, etc....
Its very hard to make a car these days with all the expected options, and performance without gaining some weight. In the C7Z more than I like, but it won't take away much from what an awesome car it is. The C5Z is a barebones and very simple car in comparison.
I have a buddy with a 850hp ZR1, and his wife has a very nice grandsport C6 Vert...she's selling it so she can get the C7Z. Go figure.....

I for one would take a C7Z in convertible, with the auto, and the blower.. Extra 400lbs or not, it will be decades faster around any race track or dragstrip then any previous Z06.. Weight is nothing but a number if the suspension is right...
Auto C7Zs will be low 10 sec cars stock, run 200mph+ and rip on the road coarse with its high tech suspension and killer brakes... How can you complain about that? With all the technology of a luxury car. What's not to love?
I however like most of us, will keep driving my 12 year old, outdated money pit and try to keep telling myself its better then the newest technological advanced Vette....because its "raw".. LOL
The name Z06 is a moniker for performance, and the new C7Z will definitely have performance, regardless of its weight or roof options.

I'm sure that the Original C-2 Z06 owners felt the same way. I'll keep my Model T because I can fix it with a crescent wrench, broken screw driver, and bailing wire. It's called progress.
My reality is that I hit my peak with the C-5 Z06, my SSI won't cover a new Z.

The car is an absolute beast, the change to a forced induction car had to happen, how many NA builds without power adders do you see in that range?
Price and reliability dictated it, as for the additional options more power to them listening to the people who will be buying these cars.
I personally know a lot of people who would of killed for a Targa or convertible option since the days our Zs were the biggest and baddest same for the transmission.
I for one love how unique the c5 frc platform is compared to other modern corvettes and will never let mine go.

I'm not so sure about this. I'd like to see the Stig run a C6Z and a C7Z auto/vert combo to see what lap times are. 400lbs, especially on the nose, does make a difference. It's the difference of 6.3lbs per hp to 5.5lbs per hp. That is a decent difference but...

Its all about money, Thats what its all about! They figure hey, Lets market to the Rich Corporate suit who wants to be cool with the top model Z06 but doesnt know how to drive a manual trans.

The fact that the Z06 moniker is now devoted to a bloated ragtop slushbox implies that we likely won't see a pure lightweight NA track oriented monster in a couple years. The Z06 will be a time trial hero and that's it. Anyone who's ever driven on a track knows that the tires don't hold out forever no matter how good the suspension is. Same with brakes. Physics haven't changed.

getting around GTR weight without the 4wd
large wide tires will more or less be mandatory just to keep tire temps down on lap days
after seeing multiple c7s in person. i have to say....i just don't like them
the c7 will be one generation i skip owning.

... I don't think I will ever grow to like the awful looking backend of the c7, the rest looks ok but I think the c6z hands down looks better than the c7z... I wouldn't mind owning a c6z but I won't give mine up for one unless it's comparatively modded... I am not one that needs all the bells and whistles which also deters me from the c7 but that's the direction cars are going nowadays so I can't really blame gm for that, it just isn't for me

400lbs on the nose? it'll have the same 49F/51R weight distribution as the reg C7 I'm sure. The additional weight is carry over from the reg C7, plus all the additional goodies.

Although I think the the Z06 vert is the most desirable Vette ever..I think they should done a lighter stripped down/lots of carbon fiber/built/bored LT1 7 manual/Targa only and called it the Z06...that would be an awesome car!
