Default OEM Wheel Weights

Why did GM put the wheel weights on the outside of the OEM Z06 wheels? Seems kind of lazy of them.

They put them on both sides. Works better that way.

Best balancing is to put weights on both sides and furthest points. It's called dynamic balancing. You can have the next place that balances the tires, you can request tape weights to be used to be put as far inward on the barrel so you'll still have the dynamic balance yet no weights on the face of the wheel. You'll still see them.

Not to mention that the clamp on wheel weights don't have a tendency to come off while on the track. Many drivers have to apply tape over the stick-on weights to combat this.

Well I had replacement tire pressure sensors installed and had them remove the weights from the outside. I've had stick on weights before on other vehicles and not once had them come off. But then again, my Z06 will not be tracked.

But thanks for the explanation!

Stick-on weights shouldn't come off on a street car. I believe the heat generated by the brakes during track sessions causes the adhesive to melt/degrade.
