Default Just $1700 for a new windshield?

Holy Crap! I was saving for a cam.....
Anyone know if a standard windshield fits an FRC?
Does the HUD require a different Windshield?
Does the price sound right?

My heads spinning after talking to the glass shop

Doesn't your comprehensive insurance cover a new one? It's $100 ded on our policy for a replacement. I have heard that you can't even get new c5z windshields any more though (the thinner, lighter glass). Pretty sure a base c5 windshield fits the same, not sure if it has to be for a HUD car though.

Yes the w/s is HUD specific .... The glass is treated to keep from having a double image

This has been discussed before. General consensus is that the 5.7# heavier non-Z06 windshield works fine, and most of the aftermarket replacements are all shaded well enough to view the HUD.

Use Safelite, get it approved by insurance and you shouldn't have to pay anything. In the ordering process you can specify HUD, had it done early this year and its works perfect on my Z.

Why? Its a great tool, and not heard of anyone having an issue with it working with a replacement windshield.

My 04 Z06 windshield got hit by a rock on the highway about six years ago. I went with a standard Safelite C5 windshield, and haven't had any issues with it or noticed any difference with reading the HUD.

The price isn't due to the HUD, it's due to the lighter windshield for the Z06

Wow,I didn't know that a non- HUD windshield would work. I put a new one on my first 2002 Z06 and it cost me around 1100.00 I think. That was 9 years ago! Time flys..

I'm not aware of any place that still makes available the lighter z06 windshield. More often than not if you mention that to a glass place they just give you a blank stare.

I'm going on my third trip back to Safelight. Firstt time got a leak, second time its crpoked, leaving a gap in the driver side seal and a bow in the frame of the front driver side. It Looks like the drivers side of the glass is high. I'm concerned if they mess with it too much, my seal might become ruined. I'll have to see!
Just pay REAL close attention to the job they do. I was assured that the guy installing mine (Jarred from Everett Washington) was the "best" because he worked in Bellevue and did all the "fancy cars."
I'd hate for anyone to have to go through this! Maybe check with the shop to see if they know about difficult install your car requires.

My guy said he won't do the job without replacing the seals & mouldings.
He has done a lot of Vettes and knows his business. Or at least claims to ...
And yes the lighter glass is no longer produced.
Still no word from the ins co.

I saw recently on Jay Leno's garage they have an epoxy product similar to 3m chip guard made for the windsheild. Sounds like a great option for us Z06 owners.

I will add the C5 is a very difficult job, you have to remove the side rails even. One reason I did it at their shop and not in my driveway. And I hung with them the whole time watching closely and they were very good and careful with the car.

And even if it weighs a couple more pounds, really? Who cares, you wont feel a couple pounds. And I'm tall and skinny, so I most like lightly then most here anyways....

It doesnt cost 1700 to replace the window. They see Corvette they see $... Also FYI you dont need the Hud glass for it to work. You can use a standard windshield, Only difference is it wont be as crisp looking compared to the proper replacement. But you can still see it and read it just fine...

I had a new windshield installed several years ago on the previous C5 Z06 I owned and the shop installed standard glass. I didn't even notice a difference with the HUD and I am very picky.
