Default NOOB with a couple questions on an 04

Hello gear head guys!

I am new to the Corvette forum
Long time looker.
I am very interested in a near stock 2002 to 04 Z06.

I was in eBay and bid on an 04 Commemorative

http://www.ebay.com/itm/221561078179...84.m1435.l2649

I was high bid but reserve was not met.
Seller has contacted my asking if I may continue to negotiate with him on this vehicle.
He is asking 26000 n I bid 23700

It is and 04 with 18 thousand miles.
No crashes / issues. He is 2nd owner.

I asked him personally of any issues with the car
He brought up seat wear and stripe peeling

The pics of the seat look fine now seam issue.
The stripe on the roof is peeling.
He did send a link to a replacement stripe (none at GM)
http://www.autotrimdesign.net/Commem...r_Corvette.asp

My questions are:

Opinions on this model year car?
Known issues to beware of / check on.
Stripe peeling common?

Car is in New Jersey and so I am a little concerned on the weather It may of been drove in !?
I am in Alabama, near Birmingham.

I appreciate any and all comments and thanks for taking the time to read my thread guys.

I have an 04 and my buddy bought a 04 CE model in California three years ago.

They are "bullet proof." If it is clean (carfax etc) and mileage as specified and it is the car YOU WANT, then I would negotiate upward until you reach accommodation with the seller. I would estimate the car would be a good deal at $25,000, but more if it is what you want. Go LOOK at the car before you decide! Best of luck and post your results

looks very clean. I would continue to negotiate w him. you can always have it inspected if you have any concerns....then ship it to you or buy a plane ticket.

I paid 25,500 for an '02 with 16k miles. Car was not pristine, has a lot of paint scratches. After fluid changes and tires cars is a ball on the track

The car looks nice in the photos. His asking price is not unreasonable based on my watching the market during this past year. I ended up with a black on black '04Z with less miles for more money. This was through a Michigan dealership and shipped to Birmingham in July.
There appear to be decent deals coming into winter.
Hope all works out.

If you can get it at 25k buy it.He claims it was garaged and off the road in the winter plus the tires are recently new.It is a late build and is past the range of the 2004 gas tank leak issue so that is good also.

Hello.

I am going to make an offer tonight.
There are thousands of cars out there but if the price is right I will own this one tonight!!
I asked about leaks in windshield trim seals and steering column lock bypass done?
Also for him to provide a carfax report.
I know the last year model cars hold there value best and I really want a vette

I appreciate all you comments and thank you for your valuable time and responses!!

I recently paid 26 for my Z16 with 36K on the clock. Car was pristine.
The price he's asking sounds right.
Some food for thought.
The Z16 is uncommon and the only collector model in the C5 series.
2025 were built and 1700 for the US.
As prices go down for Z06's the Z16 will hold its value longer.

A stripe is nothing to balk at. Take it for a ride and make an offer thats closer to his asking

GET IT!

Factory stripes are no longer available. Aftermarket copies do not have the CF stripe.

What is this light jammed in between the bezel and dash?

Also the area where the trunk struts are looks weathered:

Other than that the car looks clean!

Fellow Alabamian and Z16 owner here, live in Madison and have Z06/Z16 #165. My thoughts on the stripes: no sign of peeling on my stripes. She is garage kept, fair weather driver for the most part but (gasp...) has been rained on a few times! The hood stripe is the only set that is truly special, near impossible to replicate as they have the carbon fiber/cross hatch pattern and carbon fiber text on them. The roof and deck lid stripes are easy enough to have reproduced by a good sign shop. I picked up an extra set of hood stripes several years ago just in case...I also have a two tone 82 with special hood and body stripes that are no longer available...not sure why I gravitate to these cars with special stripes

Default No Buy

Hello.

Guy wanted 26000 I think it was
My ebay bid was 23600
Sale didnt make reserve and sale ended
He contacted me
I then found out about stripe and that it can not be bought from GM anymore and aftermarket stripe is not a match
I offered 24000
He turned it down
I dont know why he thought I might go a lot higher?
I already put my bid out on ebay
He said he can get 26000 for trade in at dealer and 2000 off his new vette.
So if he could get 28000 Im not sure why he was playing with me?
He relisted this car on here and ebay and as far I seen it did not sell for the higher price he relsted it for.
I love the car but I wasnt buying a commemorative edition that had a nonreplaceble stripe peeling for full price.
Thank you.

If the car is in excellent condition with 18K miles, his reserve is not unreasonable!!

I would try to see if you can get it for 25K, contingent upon condition. Sounds like a good buy!!

No issues on the 2002-2004 Z06s (except for the Valve Spring issue which is not known for the 04). These cars are pretty much bullet proof with this low of mileage. The only things that most experience in these cars have to do with the electronics, not the drive train. If you keep the vehicle dry and/or make sure the grounding points do not suffer corrosion, then the electrical gremlins will not usually bite you either.

'04's are the best year IMO, no Valve spring issues and the best stock shocks by far. Seems Z06's with decent miles have been holding their value rather well the past couple years, so its a fair amount. I found my MY '04 bone stock with $1K of clear bra on it and 17K in Montana back in 2011, got it for $24.5. Zero issues and its sitting at mid 40k miles now.
