Default New to the Z06

I'm wondering if there are any flaws in the Z06 that I should fix before going crazy with mods? I read about the PCV catch can and I'm going to spend the $ and do the AMW catch can. I dont like cutting corners on my toys.

I'm going wanting to get it to around 420whp over this winter. Has Borla Stinger Dual tip exhaust and a C6 Shifter in it and been lowered slightly. I am ordering a Halltech Venom intake this coming paycheck and also I need to get new rotors on it. (Slight pulsing/vibration under braking around 60-70mph. I was thinking of getting this kit with slotted rotors since I want to do all 4 corners at once so I know its on MY maintenance schedule. Then later on this fall I will order LG or ARH 1-3/4 LT's and Catted X-pipes. (1-3/4 since I'm not going to change the heads on it, I think the 1-7/8 will drop air velocity too much, and need cats because it needs to pass emissions)

http://www.lgmotorsports.com/product...oducts_id=1470

Not neccessarily going to get it from LG, I will shop around for the best price. But I want something like this? Any other recommendations on fixes/flaws with the Z or better brake options?

This is my first vette, and it will definitely NOT be my last. MINE...BLOWN...

I would do he following:
* Fresh fluids/filters front to back
* Skip shift Eliminator (if not already done)
* Column Lock bypass (if not already done)
* 02-03 Z06's have valve spring problems (Yellow springs.. Look in the oil fill hole) replace as preventive maintenance..

420+WHP:
* LT Headers
* Ported Z06 heads (243 Castings) or aftermakert
* Medium size cam
* Tune

Thanks for the input! I just ordered some valve springs yesterday to fix that very issue, and until they arrive the car is parked in the shop. Also while it's parties I'm doing just what you said, changing every fluid/filter I can. Just nice piece of mind!

I'm pretty sure the skip shift thing has been done as it's never done it like an F body or 2010 camaro...

Also what's the column thing you mentioned?

When I shut the car down it makes a rattle/clanking noise. Coming from the rear, any ideas?

You don't need to spend so much on brakes. The stock equipment works fine for everything except road racing. I needed brakes, and went with Stop Tech from Partsgeek. Got everything for under $500. My parts list is in thread below. You don't say where you live, but in California, long tube headers won't pass the emissions visual inspection. Find out what the requirements are for your state before you start buying parts.

I don't have any inspection stuff here, just a sniffer IIRC. I will have to investigate that package you described on my other thread... Could be a good deal if that's for All 4 corners. What did you think of the braking with you current setup vs stock stuff?

* the column lock is the thing that locks the steering wheel when you shut off the car so that it won't turn.. they commonly fail and leave you stuck with a locked steering wheel or limit the cars speed to ~15mph (or something slow)

* if your brakes are in good order then they should be fine. larger brake kits will require larger front wheels. but doing some good rotors and pads will defiantly be a good idea esp. if you are modding to make more power.

If you look threw the posts or search for key words you will find just about anything you will want to know about the cars.

Not much to add other than you should not have to swap out heads for 420 RWHP. Porting your current heads is a good idea. That should net around 430 HP.

A good mid level Cam, Headers, Ported Throttle Body, and CAI like te Vararam, should net you right around 420 HP.

I am thinking about leaving the heads alone. Just a 233/239 can from TSP so I can have good street manners and a Spec stage 1 clutch with 1-3/4" LTs and high flow cats. Should sound bitchin and be *about* as quick as a C6Z (stock).

I haven't done any track driving with it. On the street, I didn't notice much improvement, but the SS lines seem to give it a firmer pedal. The price was for all four wheels. The front rotors were about $80 each, the rears were $72 each. The pads were about $100 total for both sets. You can probably get a little better performance with a more aggressive pad, but the ones I got had good reviews for low brake dust and good wear and performance. Partsgeek had the lowest prices I found, and had a good selection of rotors to choose from.

Just pulled my valve cover and the springs are definitely NOT yellow, so does that mean I'm in the clear and can go for a drive?! It's a gorgeous day and I need to murder some back roads!

Pictures??

Even with the yellow springs, the immediate chance of it blowing up is low. I would go have some fun! Replace them after

Is that 450hp LS6 plate actually part of the head, or is it something someone stuck on there?

That 450hp plate or whatever it is, is definitely not stock. That was put on there by someone. Any idea of your car's history? As far as the springs go, I was far past the danger zone when I heard about the valve spring problem. I've got 130k miles on the factory stock spring with no problems, I've got an '03 Z.

I do not know the car history unfortunately. But the more I dig through it the more I see the previous owner knew what he wanted. The springs have been done (I assume since they are NOT yellow) as well as a lot of other things. I'm almost wonder if maybe the heads are ported....? Idk? Car doesn't sound like it has a cam so idk why you'd want to port the heads? Just kind of lost. Haha

Need to get it on a Dyno and see what it does maybe?

Push on the clutch all the way when you're turning off the motor. See if that helps.

Clutch in and in gear and she's silent. Its the usual I guess so I'm going to call it "normal."

When I get a fast for the car (a ways down the rd) I'll be really curious to see if the heads have been ported or not.
