Default Looking for 475 at the wheels

HI everyone, well 4 years ago I traded my CE zo6 in for a family vehicle and I am now retired and back home where I want to be, I picked up a very very nice black/mod red 2001 Z this past spring and I really like the car and want to keep it rather then setting goals on a C6Z.

I am looking for a Head, Cam, Intake, and Long Tube Header Package that puts more torque and HP to the ground then a stock C6Z.

Looking for a package that sounds fantastic!!!

I am also looking to have some things done to the clutch and rear end to support the extra power for an everyday driver. Any other recomendations are appreciated.

Also, it would help to find an installer and tuner within a days drive for me.

Here is a video of what I want my C5 run like. I want in to run like the Blue C6 Z in the video. Maybe some of you know what the car in the video is running

Search for Toque's setup. Copy what he did.

Unless you are considering nitrous or forced induction you will need a maxed out setup. You will have to do all the bolts ons, FAST intake, larger TB, decent sized cam and a good set of ported heads.

you might also consider a tr6060 conversion if you want it to run like the c6z in that video due to different gearing and it is a lot stronger than the c5 setups to boot... I considered staying n/a and doing what you're thinking of but all that work to barely edge out a STOCK c6z would make me feel kinda sad after all the effort haha... and once you're done that's pretty much it, no room for improvement unless you build another motor

I've been down the path of heads/cam to put down a little more than a stock c6 z06. I am now taking the cam out, putting a blower cam and ECS kit on. I should have done this from the start. The price difference isn't even that much higher for a blower.

My advice is blower.

That being said if you don't want a blower then call up Martin@Tick, PatG, <insert other well known cam designers> and talk to them about what you want. Make sure you get exactly what you want.

Off the top of my head
  1. Ported or Aftermarket heads
  2. Cam
  3. Timing chain
  4. Balancer
  5. Pushrods
  6. Lifters
  7. Lifter trays
  8. Cam swap gasket kit
  9. Fast 92
  10. LS2 TB
  11. LS2 Adapter harness
  12. Fast intake manifold gaskets
  13. 1 7/8" headers
  14. Catch can
  15. Tune
  16. Intake (if you don't have one already)
  17. New belts
  18. Oil Pump

Thanks for the great info guys. I also want to have the oil consumption issue taken care of with a new set of oil control rings

Toque is running the AFR 205's, G5X1E, Fast 92/92 with all the goodies and is making 480ish @ the wheels... It can be done! He has been running this combo foras long as I have known him w NO issues... His car is FAST! I am sure he will chime in and correct me if I mis spoke.

I would opt for a Supercharger.

You will not get quite a much torque off the line, but by the time you spend everything you will need to get this kind of power to the wheels, might as go with a SC.

If you want the SC to kick in from off idle to redline, might want to look at the Edlebrock SC and the Ligenfelter adapter kit for the C5. Eldlebrock uses a roots blower.

Of course you could do it with headers, cam, and nitrous shot as well.

that white car needs a driver mod ... How fast is the C6Z running at the track? Looks like it just had street tires on and was playing with the C5.

I think my stock bottom H/C/I could take it

I just found the video on you tube and has been one of my favorites because I know that C6 runs very good n/a in order to be able to take on a S/C like that and I want my C5Z to run and sound just like that.

Really interested in that LG kit. A mail in tune can be purchased from them

I looked at all the different options and price wise, the cost of going all N/A and gaining HP/TQ is pretty expensive ..lol, so I started to research S/C setup's and the ability to build lots of power fast is insane, I opted for a ECS kit, and I love it...runs amazing well I have over 625 hp at the crank and the car is a beast, best of all it still drive's like stock until I hit that go pedal and it becomes a whole different car!

LG have always treated me good, but that price seems a tad high to me... is that installed or just for parts?... also on a mail tune, that is something just to get it driveable so you can take it to a reputable tuner... I would highly suggest having a good tuner look the car over on a setup like that and not rely on a mail tune except for driving to the tuner... if you decide that's what you want pm/call Bobby or Anthony and I'm sure they can work out out a deal with you... in regards to the video the c6z is almost matching the hp of the blown c5z, it would take more than a 12hp difference for the c5z to pull the c6z due to it's power curve and gearing... most of the time when you match hp on an n/a car against a boosted car the n/a car will win, BUT the cool thing about the blown c5z is that he could add a cam, meth, and a smaller pulley and destroy that c6z... if you had a maxed out heads/cam setup on your ls6 you wouldn't stand a chance against a modded c6z like the one in the video, it's gonna take nitrous or forced induction to do it... I vote for forced induction if you want to stick with the ls6, if you want to stay n/a and your budget allows it then go with more cubes... that is just my opinion, in the end you are the only one that knows what you want so just keep researching until you make a decision

The C5Z in that video is running a corsa extreme catback. And I agree with the guys saying to go with a supercharger. I have a 460 rwhp N/A set up and while its fun I could have bought a blower already with the money I have in it and been making way more power.

Ok, thank you guys so much for all the replys. I see that N/A power is very expensive.

Can you guys help me put together a package that will not involve changing the cam?

I REALLY want all the grunt and torque off the line that I can get affordably and want it to sound very very good with a longtube header package

with longtubes, intake, and tune you're going to be slightly under 400rwhp, realistically 385-390ish... doing heads and leaving the stock cam isn't going to yield a whole lot, not near as much as it would with a better cam... you can do a full heads/cam job for quite a bit less than 8k if you do the work yourself but on the flip side a blower setup will be in about the same price range but with much more growing room

I was thinking long tube headers, intake, heads, and a clutch. Also will have the tech perform the TSB on replacing the oil control rings. Do any of yous have a link for that GM TSB on the 2001 oil control rings?

What do ya's think?

You can make 475 with a good Head/Cam/Intake combo for sure... But you will never run like a Cammed LS7. Simple reason is because of the larger cube motors crushing TQ. Even if you made similar peak whp numbers as a C6Z you will always lose.

1. because the factory M12 trans gearing is to steep.
2. The HP/TQ curve is so much larger and wider on a LS7
3. Its a LS7 lol...

No doubt @ 475whp the LS6 will put a whooping on 95% of anything you will encounter on the street and it will pull like a champ...
