Had my '04 up to 93 a couple of years ago on I-95 just north of Miami. I was getting badgered by a group of 6 or 7 BMW M series and AMG Mercedes. Finally downshifted to 4th and punched it. I was at 93 before I knew it and let off. By that time I was a little ahead of all those guys. About 10 minutes later when my pulse slowed a bit I was disappointed that I didn't think to just let it go to 100 so that I could say that I did!!
I rarely do that sort of thing so that may have been my single opportunity unless I get to a track some day. Just not really into taking chances or getting tickets...........
My Z06 thrills are limited to getting to the posted speed limit quickly and interstate clover leafs. I'm pretty boring.

I really thought I made it clear about this, that the place for top speed runs is the race track!!!! There are race tracks everywhere now, (and runs like the Texas Mile) so there is NEVER a reason to run these cars triple digits on the street or road. Driving a C5 Z06 at 150 or 160 is NOT a "stunt" or daredevil maneuver, it is just DRIVING. My 63 moves around some aver 150, and takes more attention, but the 04 is very benign to drive at high speeds......just do it on the TRACK
And where are these (everywhere) race tracks that I can hit top speeds on? Surely you don't mean 1/4 mile tracks.

You can't be the Zmiester and be boring. Not allowed! Next time you stay in it till 150mph or relinquish your title!!!! Hahahahha
Well I'm down here at Beeville for the Tx mile. One freakin LONG drive!!! Not sure I'd ever do it again, but I'll know more after getting it down the track tomorrow. After 165mph I'll be in uncharted waters for me. If I can get north of 175mph I'll be stoked!!! I'll be more stoked if there are no surprises at speed and the front end stays planted.

145 - at Atlanta Motor Speedway during CABC-XII Oct 5th.
I do all the laps in 4th. No time to shift with only 1800 feet to reach top speed and slow down for the turn - I'm chicken so I usually get off of it way before I need to.
But then again, 145 is just about top speed for 4th gear in my '02 Z06.
About 410 RWHP.
The video's are posted on YouTube. The first session is a riot.
I had a female rider that had never been near 100MPH.
She was funny. And she loved it.

In 2006 after getting off work (10 pm), I drove onto the 71 freeway and in third gear at the top of on ramp I looked back for any traffic, None, I looked ahead and saw only one taillight about 1/2 mile ahead of me, it's on. I took it to redline, 4th redline, at the top of 5th gear I quickly focused on HUD display, 170 !! I was amazed as to how smooth and stable the car was other than the drivers window trying to pop out. This was a butt pucker moment that I'll always vividly remember, and since that time I never have gone back to that speed mark, once was good! I also realized what it takes to slow down from that speed which made me focus on brake mods more than HP. I thought 'Not to Bad for a 99' FRC Z/51.

GPS'd 161 mph at half mile event. I crossed the line at 159 but stayed in it to break the 160 mark.
I top out at 165mph in 4th gear.
200 mph in 5th gear.

quite a few years ago did 140, nothing over 100 since. might add my wife also hit 140 just to say she equaled my speed. NOW, you want to be scared try 155 in a 67 427 coupe which I did back in 70 with my first corvette, now that is scary and car was all over both lanes of the unopened freeway,,,never did it again.

171+ today at the TX mile. 6500 rpm and I'm good to 7100, but 90 degrees, idling/loading up issues prevented my goal of 175mph. 147+ in the half mile so it's got more in it. Stock trans, gears and tire sizes for 04 Z.
Well I guess truth be told, they did say to make sure you stayed in it all the way PAST the mile marker, so the 176 on the HUD is probably all good since it reads 2mph slower than the gps.
Car felt really buttoned down at that speed until the window pops at 165 or so. That will interrupt any nap you've got going...

When I drive my car to work, there is an entrance ramp that provides good high speed access and a clear view of traffic coming up from behind. A good acceleration shot to wind it out before settling down always provides an easy 100-110 mph shot. My main vice otherwise I drive normally. However, in all my car's miles its been to 140+ a couple of times and once to 160+. The most amazing thing was how relaxed my wife was at 160. Her only question was how fast did we go. The car was quite relaxed at that speed too. BTW, I also have a clean license.
