Default Any tips for running the Texas Mile???

Headed there this week to scratch another item off my bucket list. I'll be running my 520whp 04 Z and hope to get around the 175mph mark.

If any have some tips as to taping off the hood, air pressure on tires, launch techniques, ect...I'd like to hear em. Thx!

Mine @ 140mph 1/2 mi event... If yours is a stock hood, you should be good to go. 520 rwhp is awesome... But is probably half of what most cars run down there. I am planning on going next year myself... Post up what you ran...

Yes, make sure that your tires are good have the right air presure, and are rated for your speed. Other than that, just relax and enjoy the event. Take LOTS of sun screen, and water...drink the water, take chairs.
I made 9 runs within 1mph of 163mph over 2 days. It didn's matter whether the mirrors were in or out, the front taped up or not. If you are running over 200 then it matters, but at stock hp speeds (about 163 for C5Z and 173 for C6Z) it doesn't matter, so take in the sights and sounds and enjoy.

Thx for the input! My hood is stock, but I do have vents in it that start about 10" from the windshield and are 12" long going toward the front. Hoping that vents enough of the underhood air to avoid any upheaval. What did you guys run for tire pressure F and B?

I'm taking a roll of tape just to see the diff vs untaped hood. No chance I'll get close to 200mph and I'm not set up for it, just wanting to stretch this things legs and see what it will do. 175-180 would be great. I'm just hoping there is enough braking area to avoid any butt puckering. Thx!

Would love to do an event like this at some point.

Good luck with your quest for the ultimate top and of your car.

Stay safe.

I ran Nitto NT-05s at 30 lbs/in. Some run rear drag radials for traction on high horsepower cars. I would recommend a little higher....maybe 32 rear and 35 front, but I don't really think it matters. I ran at Goliad, so for me, there was plenty of runoff, cause I have Stoptech BBK. However top time was a Hayabusa running (um.....) 275mph, no chute....that would have been......interesting
BTW, this is only a mile run, and nowhere near the absoslute top speed, which takes a couple of miles at least.

you might get beat by a honda

just messing with you but myles may be down there. if you see a mid 90s integra running 190mph that would be him

best advice i can think of is like any other race. look at the competition and learn from those who are successful

do check your tire pressures after each run to see how much they come up. going that fast builds heat which raises psi 1psi for every 10deg

Yeah, I'm curious as to what folks run for air pressure in their tires. They have outlawed drag radials there and since I'm driving the car to and from I'm not going to be running my NT01 track tires, but my street tires are rated at Y speed of 186 and I doubt I'll get to that. I think this rig would top out about 190, but as mentioned, not enough track to find the max.

My competition on this outing is just me, no one else.

I'm also curious if folks switch off all the nannies or just go to competition mode?

I assume most would use competition mode. That keeps active handling but allows for wheel spin. If there is anytime you would really want active handling I would say it's at 150+. Although, do you even want any wheel spin at those speeds? That could be bad too.

Has anyone lowered the car at the track? If so, how much?

For that matter, do folks remove the wipers?

Well Hales Bales....the car drives flawlessly all the way to the hotel here in Beesville...and then it doesn't want to frikken idle. Having a heck of a time putzing it around in the pits and around town. Hopefully it doesn't cause an issue at wot, but it's pissing me off!!!!

Sprayed the tb blade and maf sensor with cleaner, and still no help. I'm gonna try putting the battery tender on it overnight and see if that helps as it did previously. What a pita! And the timing sucks!

I would check for an air leak at idle somewhere in the intake system..........

Played with it late Thursday night to no avail, but it caused me a late start Friday morning resulting in 1 less run on Friday.

'twas fun, but alas I've had enuff. Hopefully on cruise on the way home it will be happy till I canst soothe the savage beast at the shop. Thx!

And after all was said and done...no tricks used at all. Stock ride height, no taping of the hood or removing wipers or folding in mirrors. But the car did decide to vent itself with the passenger side window popping open slightly about 165mph. Now THAT will get your attention for sure!
