Best tires for a C5 Z06
hey guys after 16K miles and 13 year old good year eagle F 1's, they're nearing the end of their life. I know that asking what the best tire for the car is going to be based on many different opinions. It is my daily driver, and I drive it a lot so I need something with a high tread wear rating and something that gets good traction especially in the rain. I do love how the F1's make the car corner, and how they just grip and dig right through. I don't want to lose that "glued to rails" feeling. I just need a tire with high tread wear rating, good traction on dry and wet pavement, and good handling. let me know what you guys think/run.
Thanks,
Logan

Installed Michelin Pilot Super Sports 265/30/18 fronts 305/30/19 rears. Like you wet traction was an important consideration. These tires have performed very well. Fairly quiet compared to the Goodyear F1. Ride and handling both better. So far I am really pleased.
Good luck with your search. Lots of options.

UR saying 13 year old f1's have you a glued on rails feeling?? My 8 year old f1's (back in 2009) were down right scary and still had good amount of tread left. I'd say go for the Bridgestone re760.. For a daily driver

That's a great point haha, side walls are almost shot, but I know that tires make a big difference in handling. thank you for the input

I would recommend that you run 4-18" rear stock Z06 wheels with 4 Michelin Pilot Super Sport (PSS) tires. Maybe 275 or 285 fronts and 305 rears. That should work for both street and track. Let us know how it works out

and the 760 is a POS
then again if you drove on 13yr old tires you probably aren't into performance anyway
if this is a show car, the 760 is probably your best bet, it looks correct
the nt05 in 295 35 18 and 275 40 17 also looks the part and is a much better performer than the 760

I love my Bf Goodrich G-force t/a tires. They have great traction, even on the autocross track we go on. However I have to tell you these are the only tires I have tried as this is my first vette and they were on it. 295/35 zr-18 rear, 275/40zr17 front on my stock Z06 rims.

For stock sizes, there isn't much.
NT05's are great tires - very responsive, great feel, good grip, autocross/trackable. So-so in the rain, get noisy once they get up in miles, and only last 12k. But they are the modern alternative to the Supercars IMO. There's also the Hankook R-S3, which I've heard suffers a bit in response, but also has great grip.
Otherwise you're stuck with a tire like the G-Force T/A's, which is going to feel mushy and vague compared to the Supercars.

the DW is porky in the front and doesn't really look right in 275/295
the re760 is a horrible wet and dry compound with soft sidewalls
the ps2 isn't made with the same compound in 295 as it is 265, the 295 35 18 are all porsche n4
tires like the rs3 which perform well must be bought in smaller sizes
the pss which is wicked quick in the wet and dry is only available in square or 19/18 sizes

As has been covered here already there are more tire options available if you go to the Z06 stock rear wheels all around. I did that a couple of months ago and have been very happy with the decision. I have PS2s all around. 315s in the rear and 275s up front. Would have preferred to go with 285s up front. I think it would look a bit better and I think that's the widest you can go up front without starting to scrape the front cooling ducts.
The PS2s seemed like a full suspension upgrade when I put them on. Handling and ride is amazing....to me. Had Nittos and Firestones previously. Neither is really in the same class as the Michelins. The Pilot Super Sports seem to be the real deal these days and I probably would have ended up going that route had I not gotten an incredible deal from a Forum Member on a barely used set of the PS2s.
Good luck!!
