Default Serpentine belt not staying in tensioner pulley

serpentine belt not staying in tensioner pulley.. It keeps riding toward the front of the pulley, hanging off the edge of the pulley. I have put it back twice now and it keeps happening.

I think my next course of action will be to purchase a new serp belt and a new tensioner. Sound like a good plan?

Has this happened to any of you guys? Car only has ~28k miles

Does anyone know the correct gatorback serpentine belt part # for the ls6? is it the same as the ls1? (I recently changed out all the serp belt, ac belt, ac idler pulleys, ac belt tensioner, and serp tensioner pulley on my ls1 camaro to get rid of the common squeeking; wondering if it's the same belt for both ls1 and ls6??)

For parts check rockauto. Here is a link to the belt drive for a 2001 corvette.

As for why it keeps moving, I would suspect something is out of alignment. It could be the belt and tensioner have worn out causing the slack to ride off the pulley. I run Gates belt on my Z06. Changed it a few years back with all the pulleys and it is still going strong.

I would look at your crank pulley and inspect all of your pulleys just to make sure they are working correctly..

check crank pulley make sure its not separating. then check the tensioners, if they go bad they will either walk off from lack of tension or will push apart internally and throw off alignment.

I had the same issue with my car, but only when driving on track. All the other pulleys checked out, and the issue persisted even after replacing the tensioner. I ended up installing the tensioner off an LS3, which has a pulley with a taller rim. No more belt jumping the pulley issues.

The crank pulleys are not pinned or keyed to the crank. They are known to spin forward out of alignment.
