Dude- you REALLY should look at the Z28 then if that's what you're going after, it has the N/A LS7 (I would assume the valvetrain issues ironed out at this point) and you can't really replicate the downforce/suspension/brake setup on that car without BIG dough. I think if you started w/ that and took the weight reduction a little further, added a medium cam and intake/headers it'd be extremely tough to match on a track. Hell, in stock form it already goes around a road course quicker than the GTR or a 911 turbo...food for thought.
Whooopsie Yes, 1:35's modded, with stockies in the 1:40-1:45's

c7Z is putting down some impressive numbers, over 600wtq.
I don't get the Z28, it seems way over priced for the category. I don't see them selling a lot for 70k, no AC or stereo. Seems lke a car you would just buy to race in stock rules class.

You have seen this article I take it? Stock, against 2 AWD dual clutched opponents, the Z28 was faster around Barber Motorsports Park..that is outrageous. The carbon ceramic brakes it comes w/ from the factory are like a $15,000 option for a porsche. They will NEVER fade. The suspension it comes w/ is the best in the business, hands down - top of the line technology used only by legitimate world class race cars and ONE other road car - the million dollar Aston one 77. It'll be the last production car powered by GM's 7.0 V8, it comes stock w/ the widest tire setup of ANY production car, you ask me its a damn bargain. Drop another $10,000 in mods and holy hell you have a supercar murdering machine in your hands for under $100G.

The Z/28 is a sweet ride and I'd consider one if I could have two toy cars, but it isn't quicker around a track than a C6 Z07. Anything that can be done to improve the Camaro's times can be done to the C6Z, too.
I'm really hoping they do a Z/28 on the upcoming Gen6 Camaro... the same brakes, suspension and power in a car 250lbs lighter would make quite the convincing case for itself.

None of this will match the C7Z's electronic traction aids. Personally, if I were younger, and richer; I'd be all over the new Z. I still would miss the FRC body style. You have a different perspective, when you've owned your C5Z for 12 years.

Outrun a C7 Z06 at Road Atlanta with a blower install...highly doubtful...
Outrun a C7 Z06 in a straight line...I mean...there are S10's and old Buicks doing that...doesn't seem too hard. My C5Z make 581whp/512wtq and is 3080lbs...I'd probably beat a C7Z in some roll race but...who cares...lol. The C7Z makes downforce, our C5's make LIFT...lol...you like LIFT?? I've added a myriad of suspension and braking this past winter in an ATTEMPT to match the new Z06 entirely...with data...that's my plan for this year...but it ain't gonna be easy, that's for damn sure.
So...add a blower and win...negative..

Straight line. Sure....
Turns. No "Unless your car was setup"
But lets be realistic here, How many people are truly hitting hair pin turns in here? Not many. Most people seem to care more about roll racing and 1/4 mile racing than anything else. So it is what it is....
The C7Z is not a good roll racing car, Its already been beat by a stock C6Z in a roll race. It just produces to much down force to make a strong highway roll contender. But its perfect at Laguna Seca.

That thread in the C7 Z06 section is questionable at best and it was started by a guy with a clear agenda. I saw no proof of the C6 beating the C7.
These two threads are pointless anyway. If you want to beat a C7 Z06 in roll races find yourself a cheap fox body Mustang and throw some mods at it.

I love my c5z but theres no comparison to the new c7z. smh. Everything about it is better. I really like the fact that i can go drive one anytime i want to for free rather than dropping 100k into one. I am real happy for $75k less.

How much is a new Z??? If I every upgrade again (which I've already had a CZ6) It will be a Zr1! But at this point in life my 01 SC Z fits the bill.....

Hey Breze84, where did you get those numbers? I would be surprised if the C5 ZO6 had a better drag coefficient than a C6 ZO6. That is one of the reasons why they pull so freaking hard up top - and of course, have a huge gearing / powerband advantage over a similarly powered C5 ZO6.
