Does anyone else think 5/6th gears could have been longer ratios?
I love my c5z but when I'm driving on the highway I kind of wish 5th and 6th were longer. 4th and 5th are almost the same gear ratio and 6th is not as long as 6th in my '00 z28.
I'm not saying I bought the c5z for mpg but why would GM NOT make 6th as long as possible to get good highway mpg's? The car only weighs 3000lb and has 400hp.. It could handle a longer 6th gear easily.
My best highway MPG in my 2000 LS1 M6 camaro was 31mpg from Las Vegas -> Los Angeles. And it did 28mpg going 85/90 from LA->Las Vegas. the 6th gear seems much longer and thats why it actually gets good mpg.. My best highway MPG in the z06 so far has been 28mpg @ ~65mph.
z06 @ 70mph is ~ 1900 RPM (off the top of my head?)
Fbody @ 70mph is ~1500RPM (off the top of my head?)

Drifting
That's why GM up the number of gears in the C7, Super Cruiser 7th gear.
On the other hand on a long road trip (Cal to Ill) I was getting 31 to 35 with the best crossing from Wy to Neb with a 25+ tail wind, doing the speed limit of course ;-)
