that's why i never bought one, looks like an econobox even if they are hell on wheels. lag isn't bad with a smaller ballbearing turbo, feels almost NA

5 speed or a fragile dual clutch, thing gets heavier every year, whopping 14 flat @ 99 in the 1/4 (the mr w/ the dual clutch) my 6000 lbs gmc sierra is faster in a straight line.

Subie is a much better all around car if you wanna compare those two, it now rides on its own platform separate from the impreza (unlike the Evo which is a lancer) and also unlike the Evo it is produced by a legit car company and is continuing to re-engineer the design, the 2014 Evo will be the last one. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Mitsubishi ceased to exist in general as far as non-commercial vehicles go.

My opinion, based on your criteria (fun, engaging, back seats, manual??)

Subie sti or WRX
Challenger r/to or srt w/ manual
Charger/300c srt8
g8GT or GXP
GTO
Regal/gnc/grand national - new one when it comes out
Chevy SS - sicckkkk, also comes w/ a 6 speed manual now too, I test drove one it basically took the g8 platform a step further- legitimately a 4 door Vette w/ unreal braking ability and handling that is supremely neutral

I always thought they felt kinda slow in stock trim, and the 500whp one I rode in didn't feel very fun at all. The owner of it sold it because he couldn't predict the power anymore, and cornering was just unsafe.

why not include the Mustang in that list? The latest GT500 generation is a pretty good boulevard cruiser. The 06/07 can be had for under $30k and is offered in a soft-top if that is your preference.

Good opinions here. For the question on budget I'm looking at $25K-$35K.

Just get a Challenger then and be done w/ it IMO

Buy it now prices in the sub $32,000 range w/ less than 10,000 miles?? 470HP AND legit retro looks, huge backseat and trunk, comfy and torquey AND a manual? I really don't see how you can go wrong, basically getting a near new car w/ huge power/size and good looks for right in the middle of your budget range...

OP mentioned size and ability to bring kids w/ him - mustang has a backseat, but lets be serious it really doesn't have a backseat.

any overpowered car is unsafe

with a good suspension setup, upgraded brakes and slicks 500awhp can rip in an evo. have seen many at the local track put the hammer down

turbo cars don't have that rip in the back feeling of a large NA engine. if you like that, you will hate most 4cyl cars.

you did touch on the other issue though, if you mod one you have to mod the entire car, not just add power.

that said, stock, that will out lap any other 300hp car of similar weight that i know of

There was a great Butternut Yellow '67 on pro-touring Facebook page a few weeks ago. Had A/C, LS engine, brake and suspension upgrades, all ready to go. Low 30s. Definitely will enjoy owning a classic. We just got a C5 again strictly for the track performance and bang for the buck. Nothing like cruising a cool 60s muscle car though, especially one that has had some updates done.
Good luck!

I've also owned a '94 Z28 and a '99 Trans Am since then. Today I own an '02 C5 Z06 that I bought 7 years ago before my wife and I had kids. Since then I've put some wrench time to it with heads/cam/intake/headers/clutch and it puts down about 450RWHP. I love the car but don't love the fact that I can't cruise with my wife and two sons (or just my two sons ) since there's no back seat. I work a lot of hours and the past couple years only put about 500 miles/yr on my vette if that. Its currently sitting at 34K miles.

So now I'm looking at options with a back seat that I will also love and can go fast in. At first I was thinking to just add a car to my collection and pick a 4th gen camaro since I'm very familiar with that body style, I can get one cheap, and have a back seat (although people sitting back there can't see much). If I go this route it just means my vette will be driven even less than it is now and take up more space. I do have room for about 6 cars between my attached and detached garage so its not a terrible idea but I'm not sold on it. I've always liked the 1st gen camaro so I'm looking for opinions. I would go with something that's not a show car so I could play with the motor/trans and target something that puts down 450 to the ground similar to my Z06. I'm just wondering if anyone else has done a similar swap and if so then how did it turn out?
CTS-V solves your problem the hole fam fits you still have a LS an you got luxury 08+ are the best..

Head turning cruiser available under $35k with some sort of back seat for little people? Porsche 911 or Aston Martin DB7 (or Jag XKR if you can deal with a slushbox).

So would I, but OP wants a head turner so that rules out subtle cars. I always though the ctsv looked great though.

09+ there was no '08 V

I was thinking the same thing

The wagon would still turn heads, though

That car is one of the reasons I asked about his budget; I don't think that fits, unfortunately: the cheapest CTS-V wagon I found was over by $10k
