Default Just bought a '03 Z06!

Hey everyone, new Z06 owner here and my god I love this car! I came from a 2000 coupe and this Z06 is better in every single way. Got it for a steal too at a dealership, 73,000 miles for $17.5K two owners. Also came with some goodies: RPM transmission, short shifter, blackwing intake, headers and a tune. Had the AUX cable mod done and trim pieces hydro-dipped in carbon fiber. She is beautiful!

I have no regrets selling my coupe for this Z06. It's so clean! Going to slap on some PAC 1218 valve springs on it this week too.

pull the valve covers, if the car has an rpm trans it was either modded or supercharged before, least a good chance of it

extremely rare for a stock trans to fail on a stock car unless it's beat hard

Congrats! I did the same trade.

The Z06 is so much more car than my coupe was!

Mine failed and I wasn't beating on it

Yeah, it's modded, but my power levels had nothing to do with the synchro keys failing... they're just a stamped part and a common problem in the T56

Congrats!

I wish mine had already had a built trans when I bought it, it would've saved me the time, effort, and money

I think the shift fork issue was solved on the 04's.

Welcome to the madness. I went from a 96 vert and a 00 vert to a 04 Z06. I know I will miss the vert sometimes in the summer but so far I am loving the Z. I always wanted a Z06 and when this one came up for sale (1 owner w/ 18,880 miles) it was at the price point I was willing to pay and just had to get it. No regrets.

Thanks everyone. I'll try to get some more pictures in, I have just been really busy. Yeah when I put it up on the lift and saw that RPM transmission I was like, "oh damn". It was a nice surprise. As for me missing the open top? No not at all for now, probably during the summer but my coupe leaked on the driver side whenever it rained and I tried to replace the weatherstripping but never got it to line up good enough to seal. I really hated that it would leak and this time I made sure to get a hardtop to prevent any leaks. So I probably won't miss it too much.

Default Z06

Congrats on the "new" Z06. I went from a vert to 02 Z06 and don't miss the sunburned bald head a bit.

Most of the 04 changes actually came during the 03 model year, including the steel 3-4 shift fork and the FFS fuel system; my car was built with both. Unfortunately, it was the 3-4 synchro that failed on my car, so now the rest of the shift forks are now steel as well.

It's too bad they had stamped synchros in all these cars and aluminum shift forks in most of them... GM/Tremec could've saved many of us all a lot of headaches

So I finally pulled the valve covers today and checked the valve springs. They are a darkish grey or black color... So I am guessing the previous owner already changed the springs? Are all LS6 valve springs yellow?

Congrats!!

Went the same route as you did. 00 Coupe to 03 Z06. Mine had 20K miles when I bought it, now just over 32K in the two and half years I have owned it.

I agree that the Z06 is just a much better car all the way around, but don't let the coupe owners here you say that. They will argue until the cows come home!
