Default My first Road Trip in the Z06

Took off from SoCal on April 10th, and returned on April 27th. Visited few places, family,
and friends. It was great to re-unite with my Marine Corps Recruiter, and they guy I went to Boot Camp back in 1988.

Drove thru four rain storms. I got to say that I'm extremely happy with the Potenza RE760 tires;
they stick great on the dry, and never had a problem in the rain with them. I'm glad I didn't
buy the Nittos NT05.

Drove by the NCM, it was closed, but took a picture in front of the AP.

The first stop was at the National Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton, Ohio. This was my first visit
there, and took me two days to see all planes. There are four buildings, and the Presidential R&D buildings.
Lots of history preserved there.

Will update the thread daily with other photos. Enjoy

Great pictures, thanks. Looking forward to more. Also glad to hear that the RE760's worked well. Was going to get them for my Z but it never sees rain so I went with the Nitto's. Thanks again.

Great pics, thanks for sharing. On another note, nice "Dress Blues" car you have there. I have Z06/Z16 #165 myself. Enjoy the ride!

Yet another reason to land a job at Wright Patt, few and far between in my career field! Nice Vette too, not that I'm partial or anything.

Drove to NY, and visited the Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) Presidential Library. I've
read, and seen dozens of documentaries that most of the exhibits in the library were
repetitious to me.
I've visited seven Presidential Libraries (FDR, Ike, LBJ, Nixon, Reagan, GWH Bush,
Clinton, and GW Bush), and this one was the "greener" one. The landscaping there
was phenomenal.

After the FDR visit I wanted to visit JFK's in Boston. I didn't go, and I regret that now. Drove south and visited the Air & Space Museum/Smithsonian in DC. The streets in DC reminded me of Detroit, but they didn't reach that atrocious level.

Cool trip for sure! You're my kinda guy. I just bought a classic BMW I wanted in Seattle and did this trip (google location tracking below). I stopped at various highlights I chose, drive down the entire coastline of the western united states (hwy101 and hwy1), went to the PIMA/Boneyard in Tucson and the Mercedes Benz museum in Alabama. Total travel was just at 6000 miles in 9 days.

Kept driving south, and visited Fort Sumter. This was one of my bucket list's items. It was raining, but that didn't stop me.

this thread has great timing as I am going to being checking out the FDR museum after a Boston graduation visit and have been to Air Force museum and in fact raised 10k back in mid 80s for one of those 4 building when I was at Lackland AFB, TX. I have been to IKE, Truman, Clinton museums so far and need badly to do the bush and LBJ since I live in Texas, gotta support the homies....lol, nice pics.

Awesome trip! you got to see a lot of cool places.

We are planning a road trip in July. Driving from Houston to BG (vette plant/museum), then to Deals Gap NC to do the Tail of the Dragon, then stay in the Smokey Mountains (Cabin style), then return home a different route then we went... The whole thing will be about 3k miles... Not a big deal right?

The hitch is, we are doing it in my 71' Vette, big block, no OD, mid 10 sec car w/AC.... Gonna be an adventure for sure.

Now that sounds like a cool roadtrip in the Z...

Glad to see the RE760's performed well. For daily driving, they are hands down, the best bang for the buck in the stock size for the C5Z, despite all the naysayers...

Speaking of the Potenzas, I drove the US 421 Snake, and I say 25% of it was very spirited, and
they did a great job handling those sharp turns.

From SC drove to FL and visited friends, and family. Left FL, and drove towards The Tail of the Dragon.

...and drove the US 421 The Snake

I saw numerous Confederate Flags, and learned that April was the Cofederate Memorial Month.

Towards the end of the Snake I wanted to drive to Boston, and visit the JFK Presidential Library. The trip
there would it had been 770 miles one way from VA at the US 421, and I-81, and decided to leave that one
for another Road Trip.

Got on the I-40 West, and headed for Dallas, TX to visit George W. Bush Presidential Library. A special
exhibit was on display; Baseball: America’s Presidents, America’s Pastime

These are two beams from an unknown WTC Tower from 9/11. The names of all victims are
engraved on the background wall.

I forgot to post the NCM visit. I actually was there the day after I drove the Snake. Drove up on Friday morning and the parking lot was full with Vettes, and I learned it was the Corvette Bash.

The first two photos was taken days earlier, the NCM was closed, and it was raining crazy.

On Friday/Corvette bash day.

1962 Sink Hole Survivor

That day the sink was hole fill-up looked to be almost completed.

These Sink Hole victims look unrepairable.

Bought this at the store for $10. It is Corvette History.

Drove to few of these warnings.
