Ventus RS3 v PSS
I'll preface this, I ran the Michelin on my G8 at Laguna Seca and Buttonwillow (eventually went to track wheels and RE11s) before switching over to the '02 Z06. I'm going to buy a set of Forgestar or TSW 18x9 and 18x10.5 rims and am debating between the tires. The car is not daily driven (I like to drive it on the weekends in the hills) and will see 3-4 track days per year. I most likely won't drive it often in the rain. I would get RE11s but they don't seem like an option on a C5Z.
Anyone used them on the car? After a few track days I will pull the trigger on some BFG Rivals and dedicated track wheels. For now, I just want to get the car on the track and off of the gunmetal C6 Z06 Motorsport wheels that are on it (which will be for sale when this happens). Thanks!

Here is my simple 2 cents. I have been using the Conti Extreme DW's, (275/40/17 front and 295/35/18 rears) and have logged over 20+ track days and just over 20k over all. Right now I'm down to the center wear bars rear, and have 2/32 center front with both front and rear shoulders still showing nominal wear. There performance on the track is very good (with the normal road tire pressures) But not as good as a 100 or 120 wear track tire. For the road the Conti's are more then enough for sane canyon work, quiet on the road, very complaint ride, very good in the rain, and as noted very good on the track. They do feel a little soft on turn-in (witch you get use to), with all the confidence and grip need for the street.
By the way I have a very mild performance alignment (-1.2 F & -1.0 R with 0 toe F & 1/8 toe in rear) on my Z.
Mark.

I just went with the PSS on 18s staggered. So far, they have been outstanding. Very sticky with predictable traction limits, yet pretty smooth and quiet. We'll see how they hold up to an Auto-X or two...

I had a similar experience on PSS on my Pontiac. Far and away the best street tire I've used, but I have no experience with the RS3 and no point of comparison on the C5Z at all (I've had it for 2 weeks). It has RE760 fronts that are almost new, and a set of really old (almost scary) BFGs on the rear. I also want to ditch the replica wheels.

I bought the TSW Interlagos from Speed Depot and had them mount the PSS before shipping, so it was pretty painless asides from a few hiccups.
The weather and my other toys have kept me from putting too many miles of the PSS, but I am happy so far...

The R-S3 has slightly higher handling limits than the PSS and should last longer when heated lap after lap on the track, since the PSS has a bigger temperature range for more usability in inclement weather. However, if you mount up 18-inch wheels, the biggest R-S3 available are 285s; you will have to run 19s out back to get 295s or 305s.

rs3, re11, ad08, any of the above. you're going to get the pss too hot if you're running 15 minute heats or longer
UNLESS
you purposely watch tire temps and back off enough to keep them in their sweet spot. the pss is great in rain and up to around 150deg. if you start running 200deg temps the rs3 and ad08 along with the re11 will perform better. the R888 will also trounce them all
ever consider the R888? if you drive a couple thousand miles a year and track that would be my choice
the reason the pss is so popular is because it actually works at 45deg or 100deg, rails in rain and is extremely predictable. it's just not a hot track tire. it could however be used if you ever race in rain. it's one of the fastest tires i've ever touched in the rain

I run the Ventus RS3s and love them. The fronts are 255 and rears 285, but its a wide tire so you cant tell the difference betweem them and OEM set up. They get nice and sticky pretty quick and perform very well. Lets just say they have helped me win a lot of drag races and never let me down . From my personal opinion I would def recommend them.

The R888 and the BFG Rival are tires I will seriously consider for a dedicated track wheel after a couple of events. Thanks for the input, now I'm torn between the RS3/PSS for the street. I wish I could get the RE11 in the right size though...

I've used the RE11 on the street, rain and track. It does all of those things well enough and at a somewhat reasonable price.
I've read from reviews not to use the Rival in the rain, and the 100 treadwear on the R888 is scaring me off as a street/track tire (though I am still thinking about it).

I think you're right. I'm in Northern California, so theoretically we should get rain at some point in the future. Not that I drive the car in the rain much, but I'd like to know that if I got caught out in the rain I don't have to worry about it.

I went with the Dunlop ZII's on the C5Z, they do great in the sweet, but are greasy when you push them. Not to happy with them, I think I could get my alignment more compliant for the tire though.
I would lean toward the RS3 tire, good with heat I hear. Should be good for hpde, but not a pinnacle autoX choice.

I have never run the Hankooks.
I have heard good info on the Contis, but never ran them. So far, on my Z06, I have run:
1. Original Goodyears
2. Pirelli P-Zeros
3. Michelin Pilot SS
Out of these three, I can only recommend the last one.
I would NEVER buy another set of Pirellis. Shift at 3.5 K, wheel hop and tire spin. Those tires wouldn't grab for anything!
The Michelins are heaven! Don't buy them if you want to do burn outs. They grip like glue.
On my coupe, I ran Goodyears and the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. The Michelins won again!

how hot are you going to get the tires. the sweet spot for the pss is 50-150 deg. if you're going to push 200 and track hard they won't be a good choice but they are one of the best actual "street" tires a guy can get

If you are wanting to put down fast laptimes go with the Ventus RS3. Great track / street tire. If you are looking for even faster laptimes go (slowest to fastest) NT01 > TD's > Hoosiers
