Running 93 octane with octane booster?
hey guys,
saw a video where somebody picked up 10 whp with octane booster,
i run my car on 93 octane, but would adding octane booster help/hurt the car? Would it hurt anything if that theoretically bumped it up to 95 octane? Just curious.
Thanks,
Logan

Octane in and of itself does not increase HP. The higher octane prevents pre-ignition / detonation which allows the engine to be calibrated to advance the timing and be modified to yield more HP.
So, to answer your question, your car is calibrated to run 87 - 93 octane. The 93 octane will yield the best performance. If you use a lower octane and drive WOT (wide open throttle), the computer will retard timing to protect itself from pre-ignition (pinging). If you get a tune, you could potentially get better results with octane greater than 93 but you really need to also change your compression or go forced induction to gain the most benefit.
Bottom line, save your money. I think people "perceive" their car performs better with the octane boost. If they put the car on a dyno, they likely wouldn't see any difference.

Save your money , but in the best gas you can find make sure your Corvette is in good tune ,the boost worked back in the day on older car not for the new stuff..

If it's the same racing gas I get from the Sunoco pump at the track for my racing Corvette, it has lead in it and it will destroy your catalytic converter and mess up your O2 sensors to the point they will have to be replaced. Many a street Corvette has been damaged using racing gas or 100LL aviation gas!
