[Z06] Why does everyone want so much for a Z16?

Why does everyone want so much for a Z16?
I'm looking at getting another C5Z after I sell my C6Z and the only other color combo I'll consider is the Z16. But it seems everyone wants an arm an a leg for them because they think they're "rare".
But looking at the production numbers they were the most mass produced in 2004 with 2,025 being made..... with MY being the most rare with only 629 which I used to own one but regrettably sold it.
So why does everyone want so much for them?

last year of the corvette carbon fiber hood which was only on the Z16 Z06 only...special paint with exposed CF on hood..Ti exhaust which was standard on the Z06..and the 04 shocks where were revised for that year only...

they don't. i've seen 100k mile z16s sell for 19k. the same in a standard color would fetch 18.
i've seen 5k mile z16s sell as low as 30k, the same in a standard color would be 28-29
sometimes guys post 36k or whatnot on them but better deals have been found. keep shopping, they are the most rare but 04s in general sell for more than every other year
you will pay 1-3k more on average for a z16
that's not bad for a limited car, hood is worth a grand by itself

never liked the C5 coupe, and the convertible even less, but when the Z06 came out it changed my POV. In 04 when the Z16 came out I said that If I ever buy a C5 it would be that , and that one only.

All that combined isn't about rarity..it's about the fact that C5Z is already showing the signs of being potentially the Z06 that will be coveted (the C7Z iteration might really seal that deal)...lightest/FRC/rawest/classic design/etc.
In my opinion...if you're buying a car to keep...buy it now.

I think it is a "sum > parts" kind of deal. Great color, polished rims, carbon hood, patriotic scheme, nice badges, last year of body, etc... I paid $33K back in 2007 for mine and have enjoyed every minute.

No exposed CF on the hood, it was in the stripe it self.

Got mine a bout 8 months ago, 11,500 miles on it, supercharged, long tubes, Corsa exhaust and several other really nice upgrades. Gave $28K for it. Was just like a new car, not a scratch, rock chip or anything. Even bought it from a dealer, something I almost never do. Been really happy with it. Keep looking, you will find a deal.

Because Corvette and special edition drive the price up. If you're looking for a Z16, you know what you want and you're not going to settle for a black on black or machine silver with mod red.
It's like the GS of the C4 era, it's just going to warrant additional cost.
If you're looking for Z16 and you found a torch red for a few thousand less, are you going to buy the torch red? No, you're going to keep looking for a Z16.

Sounds like me. I purchased my then stock Z16 ZO6 3.5 years ago, with 2800 original miles on it for $30K (traveled to New Jersey to buy it). I bought it to drive it daily, however. Has 21K on it now, and is supercharged with 640WHP. No regrets.
