Default Cammed C5Z what oil do you use?

Hello all, looking to do the first oil since the new cam. I was told from the shop I got my work done to use a oil that is high in Zinc. Just wanted to know what oil you guys use. I have been using Royal Purple in the past and seem to have good luck with it. I was planning to go with RP HPS or XPR. If you have any other recommendations please let me know.

Unless you reverted to a flat tappet cam, it's not much of an issue. While I'm not disputing the use of quality oil, the low zinc/zdp issue mainly affected the sliding/scuffing interface with flat tappet cams/lifters.

Im not saying your wrong, hell you could be 100% correct. However, Im on the flip side of this. Right or wrong I'm of the opinion that oils are losing zddp/zinc due to emissions and to help prolong emissions equipment life..not because zddp isn't beneficial, even in a hydraulic motor.

On a factory LS engine with mellow cam lobe profiles, low pressure springs and relatively low redlines, I'd agree it likely don't matter. A hydraulic roller LS is gonna go 100k+ miles.

My car has 160lb closed/400lb+ open pressure springs, aggressive cam lobes and a 7100rpm limiter and I like to let it rip on the regular. IMO...regular oils that tip toe on emissions equipment protection vs engine protection line, aren't what I want in my $10,000 motor.

I run Amsoil ZROD 10w-30... when I yanked my cam for an upgrade the old cam, lifters, valve tips, rockers, pushrods were all in perfect shape. Who the hell knows, maybe regular M1, Castrol etc etc would have done the same but for an extra $35 twice a year, it helps me sleep at night that I run top shelf oil made to protect parts that count. However I am getting OCD as I get old

Just my take...not trying to pick a fight or start a dead horse beating session

It's all good, never disputed why they took it out, agree it's removal is about emissions.

On my cammed Z06 i run M1 10W-40 high mileage. The high mileage oils by m1 have higher zinc content than most found on the shelf of local store. Another great candidate is the M1 0w-40 european blend. Zinc content on this one is just as high as the high mileage oil but it doesn't have other additives associated with high mileage oils.

I use the 0W-40 European blend in my track car and my oil reports have all been fine. It does show a higher than normal zinc content.

I like the "European Formula" additive package and viscosity. The 5W-30 also seems a little light to me...especially in the M1. I don't have any empirical data to back up my preferences, but have had great luck so far.

Thanks for all the help guys. Im really thinking of getting the Amsoil Dominator racing oil or RP HPS. I was told by my shop and several other people to stay away for M1. They are all saying it is not what it used to be. That being said thank you all for the input and help.

standard m1 is not, the high mileage is pretty decent with a good zddp level.

redline will be the best imo for high heat and all out racing. very high zddp level and a group 5 ester base

RP i would avoid all together simply because amsoil makes a better group 4 PAO base. the additive packs at amsoil address the #1 problem with PAO and that's the hardening/shrinking of seals. redline by nature will not have this issue, esters swell seals, ideal for older cars

the big thing zddp actually does is help extend ring, bearing life with high cylinder pressure builds. cams usually don't have much of an issue unless they are solid

A side note on what I brand won't be using. Made some changes, (cams/springs), on my 10R (in avatar, spins 13,000rpm). Was looking into zinc/phosphorus (zddp) levels.
I had used Castrol "Racing 4R" for several years. Found they had altogether dropped that spec from the data sheet. So I emailed them.
Their response: "That is proprietary information that we no longer choose to share."
I emailed back: "So you won't share info I can just get with a $30 oil analysis?? Shouldn't be that big of a secret.......Shell (Rotella), Mobil (4T Racing), etc, post it on their websites. But you now say it's "proprietary"??
Their response: "That is correct"
My response: "How about, you keep your product, I'll spend my money elsewhere."
They actually responded: "If that is your choice, that is fine with us.
Regards"

ps, Mobil, Shell, Amsoil, and Herguth (analysis) have 1 (800) answer lines and have always been VERY helpful and informative.
