Default Service Column Lock Help Please

Guys,

Im in a little bit of a situation and my car is stuck in a friends driveway.

I have a 2001 Z that gives me a "service column lock" message on the display and sometimes a "pull key and wait 10 seconds" message as well as a low voltage fault sometimes.

In a nutshell, the car stalls out if I take it above 2 MPH forward and reverse.

To my knowledge the plate has been removed in the column because I can turn the wheel, but I do not think a column lock bypass was installed. Possibly some software was ran on it too with the owner before me.

Any help is appreciated

My 02 Z06 did this to me a year ago.

This how I fixed it:

1. pulled off steering wheel and ended up using cutting wheel mounted on a 4 inch grinder to cut off locking pin.

2. used HP tuners to edit PCM. Reset 2MPH fuel cut-off using the HP Tuners software.

I think this is the only real fix for the Column Lock problem.

The real expense is in spending the $700 or so on HP tuners.

And while I'm posting.............what a time bomb this problem is. An electronic column lock is such a stupid idea. It was only ever a matter of time before they started to fail one by one.

Sorry.
Just to be clear............. when I say reset fuel cut-off I mean that I set it at 180 MPH...

Will a service column bypass do the trick?

The locking mechanism has already been removed

The steering wheel can not lock once the locking mechanism has been removed, but the computer still thinks the wheel is locked. Once the CLB is installed, the computer believes the wheel is not locked and will not disable the fuel pump after 2 MPH. The Column Lock Bypass should cure your problem, but make sure your battery is fully charged. A low voltage condition can cause the same symptoms. Good luck.

From all I have read the LMC5 is the best solution, like the last post suggested, get it from Complicance. Richard is the best customer support guy on the planet. There was a post 2 weeks ago where an elderly guy in Oregon messed the LMC5 install up and Richard hoped a plane and flew out and fixed the guys issue because he thought he somehow felt resp. for the issue. I installed the LMC5 and would still get the message occasionally and ended up installing the brown wire mod that goes hand in hand with the LMC5 install. I even had my fuel shutoff set to 245 MPH so I would never have to worry about that again. Good luck

Hi, sorry to hear about your misfourtune, mine did the same exact thing to me last week after 4 days of owninging it. C5Zs are VERY sensative to low system voltage, so step 1 is ensure you have a "good battery". This means, IMO, interstate or optimo, less than 4 years old. If you have anything besides that, replace it. This will not solve your problem forever but it may help reduce the chances. Step 2, complianceparts.com, order the LMC5 Module only. If your correct that your steering wheel moves freely while the key is removed, you do NOT need the "LMC5 Unlocker", only the Module. The module itself is a very straight forward install. 4 pages, very detailed, pictures included, even the wire colors match the wires youll be replacing. Dont be too worried, the install took about an hour all you need is a 5/16" and a 1/4 wrench, if u dont have thise, you can buy them from compliance parts when u order your module. I just installed my 2 days ago, piece of cake. Good luck.

Further to the LMC5 I bought a battery tender - I keep the Vette plugged in at all times when I'm not driving it.
