Whats up with the cup holder???
So I tried to stick a bottle of water in my cup holder (just bought the car). WTH!!! That cup holder is a complete waste..... Bottle just falls all over the place. Also, no place to stick a cell phone and have it visible. Anyone done any mods for a cup holder or cell phone holder? Got to be something out there.....

Vette Tray or Vette Tray 2, I went with the original because it's very light.

I agree with you on the bottle holder but I have stored one in there without a ton of trouble. I can't race around or anything but it will stay there if you're not too rowdy.
Also it works really well as a phone holder for me. Right after I pulled my newly bought vette off the lot I stuck my phone in there. Galaxy 4 no problem.

The C5's backbone chassis was key to the stiffness/handling quality of the C5/C6, and the height/depth of the trans tunnel is key to that - and prevents the cupholder from being as deep as it needs to be (explained in the great book, "All Corvettes are Red").
I use one of the add-on types that clamps on the center console/carpet edges, works fine -unless your passenger has thick legs!

Chevrolet engineers used the volume of Obama's brain mass as the determining factor for the cup holder on the C5. Astonished by the worthless size of the resulting cup holder they doubled it resulting in the cup holder you have in your Vette.

I use the "in between the legs" method for holding beverages. Works great with no spillage, just squeeze a bit tighter around fast turns. Also keeps you nice and cool like an air conditioned seat or something.

I tried the factory cup holder...does hold a cup when the car is not moving. Then I bought a "tray", ....does hold a cup when the car is not moving. Then I bought a cup holder that slides under the center console on the side and wedges itself to the carpet and folds down to hold the drink...does hold a cup when the car is not moving, none of them can keep the drink from spilling while moving, so I just don't drink while driving.(maybe I should just try driving slower)

I bought and installed a partition and tray in my car to hold beverages and so my wife has some place to put her purse with out it flying to the back when I get aggressive
its a reach for sure to get or put a beverage but they stay put! its not good for guys who drink large size drinks though but a can or standard size bottle fits fine

It's also funny how the cup holder lid opens the wrong.

All you need to do is buy a add on cup holder at one of the auto stores.
Spread the part that used to hold on the door panel, then push it up alongside of the council when you try to pull it out the tab catches the edge of the carpet.
On some cars I use an existing screw on the side cut off what I don't need.

So that is what that is really you sure not deep enough to hold anything and is kinda in the way when shifting ,I don't think that's is a cup holder. I don't know what it is but not a cup holder..

It's not a fanatical Corvette 'fanboi' book (the author isn't a hardcore gearhead and thus has enough distance and perspective to present an unbiased view), but will answer many questions I'm sure all C5/C6 owners have asked themselves at some point, and will explain much about every facet of the C5's long (very long!) path from design sketches to initial production.

Its pretty much a street legal race car, who gives a chit about the cupholder. It works fine as a cell phone holder. If you want a bunch of cupholders get a minivan. Seriously though, I bought a $5 cup/change holder at the parts store that attaches with velcro right behind the console in the back storage area. Holds two cups and change etc, works fine.
