Default Tire for Z06 as a DD?

Has any one tried the Continental ExtremeContact DWS for a Z06 used as a daily driver? They come in 275/40/17 and 295/35/18, thinking this would make an acceptable tire for road trips and daily driving.

Any thoughts?

I have them and no complaints on my DD. Even used them at the track.

Ditto. I use them as a DD tire and have even done some 1/4 mile work. For the price it is an excellent DD tire. I've got 40,000 miles on them and they have tons of tread left.

I bought them as a DD tire due to price (inexpensive) and high tire wear rating. I wasn't expecting much on the traction front but I was able to muster a 1.77 60' time as a personal best with that tire. Initially I never thought I'd get less than a 2.00 60'.

Great tire for a DD and very good in the rain!

My set came on the car I have, they were manuf. in 08 and seem to be solid. Put over 10k miles on the car in the last 8 months since its my daily. They did great. They hook pretty decent in the rain we get in South Florida too. They also seems to wear slowly so hopefully they continue to make them in a few years, I will be looking for another set once these are shot.

I DD the DW, not the DWS, and love them. Full traction in first in the dry, and full traction in second in the rain, what's not to love?

About 20k miles on them, all driven kinda hard and they still look new.

How much do they run a set? I'm looking at Nitto NT-05 but the fronts are a little wider than stock but apparently work fine.

Hard to beat original sizes-Bridgestone 760s--very smooth riding tire and decent traction--set= 750.00 out the door-

Read this. And you want the DW's, not the DWS's.

I have the DWs on our Z, and DWS 06s on our Audi S4 and couldn't be happier with them. Seeing that your are in Boise, the DWSs might be a good choice because they are M&S rated and could get you around in a light snow... The DWs on the other hand do not like the white stuff, or Ice.

As for ride and handling, the newer DWS 06s have a stiffer sidewall then the old DWS, and come with a 40k tread wear listing, and they are more then good enough for "sane spirited" driving.

If there is any downer, it's that they will cold thump on cold morning for a mile or so.

Mark.

I paid $618 delivered to my door via TireRack. Ordered them at about noon on Sunday and they were in my driveway Tuesday morning at 0800.

I would not suggest NT05's for a DD unless you live where it never rains. Or your commute is low mileage, and you have a 2nd car in-case it does.

Have had RE760s since last fall. About 15k miles on them. No issues, even in torrential downpours or colder weather. I drove the car until Jan 3 of this year (when salt hit). Even in colder temps, it was easy to live with if you were easy on the throttle. No complaints whatsoever.

$618? Are you sure? On TR website I get 774.10 for the set without shipping.

I have NT05's on the rear and NT555's up front and drive in daily heavy rain lately and the rear NT05's are stickier than the front NT555's in the wet....I have no issues in the wet with them at all, even put them front & rear on my old M3 DD. They don't "look" like they'd work well, but in fact they do I my experience.

Coming from a guy who lives in the Seattle area your opinion has high merit to me (rainy region). I only drive my Z in summer and not in the rain so I'll be fine. If I accidentally get caught in the rain once or twice a summer I'll be ok.

I attached a table that I complied of tire prices for a C5 Z if anybody needs it.

when i bought my 03z it had DW's on it i swapped over to RE760's, the DW's did handle a little better and had more "DRY" traction but not by much only a very little at stock power level, the RE760's are better in the wet, smoother & more quite though

if you want every lass bit of performance the DW's are for you if your willing to give up a very little bit of performance but have a better ride, better wet traction and less noise the RE760's are what you want. for me the handling and traction difference really was so little its not worth the ride quality and noise the DW's have to swap back even though there on my stock wheels sitting in storage

when i purchased my currant 01z it had PS2's on it to be honest they had the best dry traction but to me didnt handle as good as the DW's or RE760's ride was ok the gain in traction on dry ground for me was not enough to spend $1600 but my car has around 440rwhp might be different at stock HP level?
