[Z06] Supercharger on the C5 Z06...I think it's time to

To keep 650 supercharged HPDE cool you need a lot of clutch, supplemental cooling solutions, and a lot more mass/complexity/etc. I have the Mantic 700hp clutch and three hard shifts it's going south...my clutch would need changed to even think about it. At 430whp my clutch will go for days.
Keeping the systems cool with 430whp is enough work on the car to avoid more rapid wear/depreciation...supercharged...no thanks...that's a money pit.

I agree, but it can be done, just much more involved. JBSBlownc5 Is a good example of what to do on a FI car to keep it cool. It is a street car with around 800whp, and he beats on it in the canyons, road racing, and half miles.

I'm about to bolt a supercharger on. Lmfao. I also get tickets.. latest one was 1000 bucks. Damn plane got me (I strongly feel that, they are cheating with that plane) clocked at 115 in a 60 :/ atleast he didn't get me at the 140 I was doing just a moment before. Hopefully this dosent become a pattern with the supercharger.

Supercharger just becomes too tempting. Too much. I'm the wrong guy for it.
I built custom forced induction systems for a long time...made a lot of big power cars for customers, but always kept myself in the middle ranges of capability for a given chassis. 580whp in this car is just dangerous...too easy to access, instant law breaker.
Good luck with that....
I fight every ticket tooth and nail...they get my money in filing fees but I love beating a cop/ADA as their own game...f*ck'em.

Well, the process of the C5Z version 4.1 is underway....we'll see....
Vers. 1.0 (R888's, stainless braided lines, slotted rotors, hawk pads, drove the **** out of it)
Version 2.0 (AR headers, Vararam, BB Quad Bullets, L5's, etc, murdered out)
Version 3.0 (3m Satin white pearl, AA supercharged, lowered on stock components with some sport shocks, L5 rear fenders with 345 rears/285 fronts, some misc stuff)
The abandoned path
Vers 4.0 (added supercharger cooling, custom widebody with reduction in rear tire width (325) and increase in front to 305/315. C6Z custom powdercoated brakes, Pfadt featherlights and JO sways, etc) CANCELLED
Where will we go here...
Vers 4.1 (removed supercharger, 18x11 square setup??....and then...)

As much as I like the color, I think you need to chnage it, or you are still going to get pulled over, even if you put a lawn mower engine in it. They obviously know you, so that will buy you a little time.

Built Honda's for 12 years in 3 separate businesses I owned...started on crx-perf (late 90's), then Honda/acura forums, then Hondatech. I've had about ohhh....80 Honda's roughly...240whp N/A to 980whp turbo and all in between. I built custom forced induction setups mostly, dyno tuned Hondata/AEM/Crome, etc....

A. My mind started to see this:
Car was aggressive in the rear and disproportionate up front.
B. The C5's have a pretty inherent push as is and the difference in front to rear contact patch worsened the problem
C. Optima Street Car Challenge C5's all have taken on a pretty proven method...equal contact patch front to rear, giving the car better turn in, etc.
D. The widened rear track, versus narrowed front track again...worsened the cars tendencies.
E. Unsprung mass
On the color...the 3m Satin White Pearl is gone...

Yeah man...people on the outside don't understand how damn visceral a well built NA Honda is. Those cars were SO damn fun to drive. Great gearbox, fantastic engines, light...the naysayers have no idea. I truly LOVED my days in Honda. Honda was the basis upon which I built businesses, my skill set, etc. They led me many places.
Inevitably though, I knew the market was dying (i.e. shrinking dramatically), so I realized I had to make a move. I dropped out of the Honda world in late 2009, bought a Corvette and took on a business partner to build turnkey Factory Five GTM's. We got on the Speed Channel in 2010, to SEMA and LA Auto Show. Finally, after years of knowing Bisi and Jeff (Full Race) online for years, we met during those days. Bisi was also turning the corner, heading into Porsche. It was kind of bittersweet that I exhibited next to Bisi's CRZ and I wasn't exhibiting a Honda but...it was cool to be there finally. Bisi recognized me right away. Pretty crazy how the internet changed the game...people on an opposite coast know you, what you do, etc...lol.
I can't help but still want to build my "final" Honda to keep for good. I'm getting close to that. Damn problem is I just CAN'T decide which chassis to start with...I liked them all for different reasons.
I even did huge meets in Pa...brought Honda's from over 5 states and traffic jammed the interstate. I have a vid for the events. I made a mark in Honda...even if a small one.

Quite an interesting fact is..."RC000E" was a prototype Honda F1 engine....lol.

Wow u have certainly done a lot ! I sold my integra to a local kid who beat the crap out of that car for almost a year, let another local tuner touch it, raise the rev limiter to 9200 from 8800 it and weeks later boom valve dropped. . I had so much time into that motor. From the head work to every thing Port matched etc. had hawk hp+ pads and koni yellows with custom g/c coil overs. I got my Z August 09. Just had enough with the Honda crowd. My ek was stolen before my integra. Just so many scum bags in the Honda game anymore. Ruined it for the real inthusiast.

Yeah...a big percentage flushed out to factory turbo'd cars because they couldn't hack it (because they were hacks). A subarus and evo's came down, I saw that change coming. Dudes coming into Honda's late became 240 guys...now the junk drift missile is the eg hatch with a bswap from 10 years ago. On the big car scene you can easily identify the former import guys. People DEFINITELY don't realize the impact the Honda scene had on the ENTIRE car scene of today...even the C7.
People can hate on Honda all they want, but 1998-2010 was an era that spawned a HUGE growth of car builders that will influence the industry for the next 3 decades.

Not to stay off-topic here, but I don't miss the econo-import craze. Don't get me wrong, I respect and enjoy Japanese cars...heck I lived in Japan for a few years..., but the Fast & Furious craze of half-azzed junk with horrible body-kits, neons and terrible engineering/products set the aftermarket for those vehicles up for a huge implosion.
Granted, that collapse has been good for domestic performance, but I often think of what could have been if that market evolved more slowly using better engineering, platforms and taste.
