Default Supercharger on the C5 Z06...I think it's time to

take it off....

So, let's put it plainly why.

1. I don't get the access to track use due to the necessary additional cooling system that's necessary
2. Power on the street is nice to have, but frankly it's highly unusable
3. It's a lot of added mass I don't want
4. Frankly, I can't stop myself from driving insanely. I am constantly tearing *** sideways on public highways, streets and near playgrounds. I do donuts in the middle of the road, slide sideways through intersections, make people duck and cover because my car scares them, etc.
5. I'm pretty damn tired of getting pulled over

SO....going to pull off the system, which only has 2400 miles on it and put the money into a square setup 18x10's/305's all four corners, a new wrap, possibly a cam, a bigger rad, etc.

Hopefully turning the power down will increase my ability to use the car more, and get pulled over less.

Some people drink, some people gamble, some people lay pipe all over town....I speed...I drift...I act like a maniac...I just can't f*ckin stop myself. I need rehab. On the plus side, I can argue a case in court like nobody's business and in that sense the car has made me the guy no cop sees comin...for that I suppose I am thankful.

I like to thank the following fellas...all who had some small part in me dialing this b*tch back finally. I'm gettin to old for this sh*t (38) I built a business on street racing in the late 90's/early 00's...here in 2016 I figure it's time to dial it down a little I guess. Time to hit the track more.

While certainly not all represented here below (can't find 4 or 5...think on separate pc)...this is just a few guys out trying to make their money. You finally convinced me though guys...time to turn her down...see if that works.

Removed my blower and supporting systems last year for the same reasons. Mostly tickets and want to drive HPDE's again.

Yeah...I'm thinkin just put a cam in it. I have AR longtubes, no cats, and BBbullets. I sold my vararam but, I guess I will grab another. I'm thinkin selling the supercharger, then buying an upgraded rad, a cam, and a few other things. From there I'm on the search for an L92/L94 engine...hoping to grab an escalade through copart for partout, then build that.

I think 425-450whp is a nice target for now. From there I'm really going to focus on getting weight down and still doing some aero. I need more enjoyment out of the car and my playing in the streets just brings too much bs.

I would go for a NA build and keep it ~500whp give or take a few. A set of heads, cam, Fast intake with TB and just enjoy the car. This past year i went through the same thing, supercharger or make the car handle, driver comfort and deliver the power properly. I went with the last three; went with the square set up, race seats so i can push the car harder around corners without having to fight the seat, shocks and some other upgrades.

I replaced cam with a shelf grind because I had damaged lobes which I was not expecting so compromised a little on cam. In addition I should have milled my AFR 205 heads but again was in a hurry to get car on road/track. The car makes decent power at 452/39X with heavy 19 x 12 repros with 345/30/19's but could have done better if patient and waited for custom grind and milled the heads. I already had ported FAST 90, Kooks LT's, coilovers, sways, brakes, Dewitts radiator and a few RR essentials. I added RPS BC2 clutch (26 lbs), DRM tranny-diff-oil coolers, brake cooling, Cobra Suzuka seats, Teamtech harnesses and likely a couple other things I cannot recall at the moment. I still need a good set of wheels and tires also. I have set of repro 18x12 and 18 x 10.5 with R6 scrubs 335/30/18 and 295/30/18 that I can use at the track for now.

Frankly, I can't stop myself from driving insanely.
What cured me of that were two things

(cliffs-cheap ins and freedom)

-Running it down the 1/4 mi

-Last st race....towards the end thought "This is not only a go to jail deal its a lose your car & license they crush them out here), job EVERYthing". Only then did the light turn on picturing a 20 something yr old cop toting a grey haired guy in. Imagine standing in front of the judge....or bubba getting ready to go elbow deep

-The thought of involuntarliy taking a life and the price that goes with it yeah that was enough. I never ever speed in anything now, just cruise it with the occasional rolling into it w/o getting stupid. No tickets since 91

We understand.

Id make your car so mild it wouldnt even be fun to stand on it if controlling yourself is that tough.

Well...clearly you either have less city cops on the prowl, more self control, or just better luck. Me...every time I step into the car I'm pulled over...I mean...it's bad.

Kit is for sale in the Parts for sale section. Time to hit the HPDE's and hear the rev range again, versus feathering on the limiter all the time.

I went from 650rwhp down to 420rwhp in an effort to enjoy the car more and not be so close to death all the time...haha!

Fast-forward a few years and I'm thinking of going back up about 525rwhp N/A with more cubes.

Good luck...it's a disease!

I get pulling it off. On my drive home from work today I put my car a wee bit sideways 3 times just having fun / driving mildly aggressive.
No blower, just a plain Jane 04Z with light mods (headers, intake, tune).
Honestly; plenty of oomph for a DD for me.

I'm bone stock too, 2004 Z16, don't get to drive her as much due to well, life... but oh when I do! I totally get the addictive stuff this car can do to you. That sound, the feeling when the tires break free and you power/steer through it. Yup, need to get my fix this weekend!

I feel like this is the route I want to go inevitably.

At the time I put this car together I had my shop in Pa. The local mentality is highway bs, everyone asking about whp. As a shop owner I had to have some degree of excess. For me, 580whp was excess for the chassis/car. Granted it handles it well, but it also destroyed the spirit of the Z06 that I loved. I HPDE'd the car when I got it, and at 394whp, loved the car.

I'm hoping I can get this in the 420-430whp range quickly, then start building some type of 480whp'ish motor. Lots of guys go to the road course like they are out to win the championship...me...I just want to drive at 8/10's, not putting the car at huge risk, without some taxman chasing me down. I just want to enjoy the car again...somehow.

That said, deposit taken on the kit. Sold it for 3500 + a newer vararam and injectors....F it.

I agree...I feel like the C5Z was just a beautiful creation on GM's part...not extremely excess, just simple, light and well executed.

Going to try running meth + e85 + big pulley when I do mine this summer for HPDE. Is it really that bad if you watch the coolant / oil temps?

420rwhp with a mild cam, Kooks catted LTs into the factory Ti, an underdrive pulley, CAI and tune. That easy...
