Default Stock valve springs

I been doing a lot of reading about the bad valve springs with 02-03 vehicles. If I see yellow valve springs in the car, does it automatically mean its the one that is prone to breaking?

Most of the stock spring failures were yellow. Doesn't mean they are going to fail on you at any moment if they've been on the car for 10+ years now, but they were the batch that had the most problems. I replaced my stock springs after I got my car 4 years ago, and they were bare metal with orange lines on them.

No, yellow springs doesn't "automatically" mean they're bad. But it's a helluva lot cheaper to replace the springs than the engine, even if you have to pay for shop labor.

I think it's cheap insurance to potential avoid a costly disaster. I know someone who had a failure and it's just not worth the headache IMO. I recently picked up some new stock replacement springs (now blue) for $50. I plan on installing them in the next couple weeks just in case.

Do yourself a favor and just replace them. It can be very expensive if you break one. I can send you receipts or a very nice build spreadsheet if you want to know exactly how much, but it's definitely cheap insurance to replace them. If for no other reason than just your peace of mind. That being said, I love my new LS376/480 motor from Chevy Performance! 495 hp is what they are rating it now from the factory!

$75 for new valve springs or $7500 for a new engine....tough choice...
