Default C7 Z06 Nurburging Time

I just read a few articles about the 2016 Z06 turning laps at Nurburgring. It is showing times between 7:06 and 7:08. Think about this? 2004 Z06 turned times in the area of 7:40 which is just 33 seconds off from a 2016 Z06. WOW a 12 year old car vs a new car and the difference is only 33 seconds. C5 Z06's are still a great bang for the buck.

Well... 33 seconds is huge IMO. Go stand at the end and count to 33 while waiting for the C5Z to cross the line. I'm not disagreeing with you, amazing cars... but that's a crap load.

Agreed. As technology advances we are going to approach the point of diminishing returns. 33 seconds at that already quick of a time is pretty incredible.

33 seconds is a lot! Even a 3 second difference is huge when comparing times. I'm pretty sure the C7 Z06 is in the top 10 fastest production cars on that track which is awesome if you look at the other cars on that list.

Actually the 2002 Z06 is 96 out of the top 100 @ 7:56:00 and the 2004 was 7:42:90.

Yeah 33 seconds is HUGE... at the speeds they're running that track. When the C7Z is crossing the finish line, the C5Z is over a mile behind, not good.

I'm surprised there is a 14 second difference between a 2002 Z & a 2004 Z? Maybe a different driver?

2 Corvettes are in the top 10 fastest. The C6 ZR1 is #8 with 7:19:63 and the C7 Z06 is #9 with 7:22:68. I'm pretty sure the C7 Z06 has completed a faster lap time than the C6 ZR1, but it's unofficial right now, but should take the #7 spot soon.

The Nurburgring has speed limits now on a few sections due to the horrible Nissan GTR crash that killed spectators. Its almost unfair now for any car trying to beat previous records as they were able to run the track wide open.

I'm pretty sure that Z06 on the list is a C6, unless there was some time traveling going on........

Timing back in the C5 era was a standing start for one. 2nd, the track favors hp due to the size. Inevitably, the C5Z still outperformed a ton of cars there, and did so on tire compounds FAR inferior to what's on a C7Z. You put a C5Z on good rubber it'd probably dip a 7:30's

Ya, it was a C6 Z06, not sure how I missed that, lol. A blue C7 Z06 did manage a 6:59:13 lap last year which would put in in the #2 spot behind the Porsche 918, but for some reason it's not an official time right now? I'm glad they got rid of those speed limits cause what's the point if you can't go all out?

The C5Z did it just under 8 minutes back in the day - 7:56 - so the C7Z is 50 seconds quicker - that is HUGE

I imagine if you outfit a stock '02+ C5Z w/ the best modern michelins money can buy (like the C7 has) and allowed it a little rolling start the time would be in low mid-low 7:40's - not 7:3xxx anything - the 7:42.9 time by Jan Magnussen was in a very early production C6Z circa '05 I believe.

I still prefer my C5Z...to either C6 or C7 if I ever want to freshen her up in 10 years in goes I'll drop in something like the LS376 FI 525hp N/A crate motor & give her a new paint job Already paid off & w/ $12,000 into it so far w/ mods/labor/maintenance there's no looking back for me lol!!!

There was never an official time published for C7Z. The 6:59:13 is total internet BS and there were rumors of 7:08:xx that were proven BS as well. This topic rages on in the C7Z section with some owners in denial that "ring times" don't mean anything and others (some owners) asking WTF happened to a "ring time"... Lots of butt hurt going on there.

You have to understand that the Ring is something like 12+ miles long with hundreds of turns, so the extra downforce and sticky tires help in everyone of those turns.

I agree, IMO with sticky rubber and better brake pads the C5Z would likely be in the mid-high 7:30's. 2002-2004 C5Z's are almost bullet proof and far more capable than 95% of owners will ever drive them. In the Autocrossing & Roadracing section the C5Z and LS6 are legend.

2001 Z06's are even more bullet proof because they don't break valve springs. :
