Looking to buy and C5 Z06
Anything I should look for? Year, recalls ect? Ive read about the valve spring issues and it looks like I should go with either an 01 or 04? Anyway, thought I would ask here first. Thanks

Why should you go with 01 or 04? Why limit yourself?
Valve Spring change outs are relatively cheap and it could have already been done.
Some 01 have oil consumption issues and not all 03s suffer from valve spring issues. 04 has fuel pump in the gas tank that cost major bucks to replace.
Just wanted you to know, all year models had some minor issues.

Good luck with your search. But you wouldn't buy one that has less than 45K miles?

I wouldn't worry about the valve spring issue, I would just get any 01-04 you like. I would ask the owner if he ever changed the springs though. If they are original I would replace them no matter which year it is. They are one of the leading causes of engine failure for these cars, they are fairly easy and inexpensive to replace, its just very cheap insurance.

Sounds like your going to have a great memorial day weekend! since it's an 02 I would definitely check to see if the springs are original or if they were upgraded yet. Have fun!

I would ask the owner first and see if there is any paperwork about them ever being changed . Then to confirm what type they are you can just remove the oil fill neck and look inside the passenger valve cover with a flashlight. If they are yellow those were some of the problem springs from 02. If it has the latest GM replacement springs they will be blue. There are other types of springs both GM and aftermarket but that will give you some idea which they are.
Edit - Be careful removing the oil filler neck. Sometimes they can come off easily but if it doesn't don't force it, there is a tab that locks it into the cover which could crack. You may need to pull the valve cover to check, which is a pretty simple job as well.
