Googone20's New Z06 Flying Banana!!
Hey guys. Been a member for many years, but this is my first Corvette that I have purchased. I purchased a brand new 2006 TBSS years ago, modded that, tracked it, and had some fun with it. After I sold that, I got into BMW's and have owned 15 different BMW's over the years. M3's, M5's, etc. I currently daily drive a 2014 328d Msport. It's BMW's new turbo diesel 3 series. I live the car for my long commute. Gets 40mpg and is still very sporty, smooth, practical, and good looking. A couple weeks ago I sold my 25k mile 2003 M3, and I decided I needed a new toy. After looking at several C5 Z06's for my father-in-law last summer, I decided I was going to look for one myself. I have never owned a Corvette, and I figured it would be a nice change and a new experience.
I was able to find a REALLY nice local Z06 with 50k original miles. I have always moved these cars in Millenium Yellow, and I have also never owned such a bold colored car. In my younger years I gravitated towards all black or silver cars. Recently I have been trying new things. Lol!! The car has over $20k in high end upgrades. I'll list some of them below. So far I am loving the car, and the informative community. Honestly that's why I like BMW's so much, is they have a vey large community full of great information. I work on all my own cars, so I like to research and learn how to modify, service, or tweak my own ride. I will continue to log and post my progress with this car. I definitely already have several things in the works. The more I drive the car, the more I realize where I want to focus my efforts.
Here is a list of the current mods:
Car currently makes 460whp and 420wtq
Halltech Intake
AFR Heads with Upgraded Valves, Springs, Pushrods
Texas Speed Cam
Texas Speed Software
LG Long Tube Headers
LG G6 Coilovers

I live in Lake Orion, but technically my address is Clarkston.
The car is very clean and very nice. My goal is to bring it to a whole new level. Lots of detailing, finishing touches, a little demodding, and a little more modding. Lol!!

First thing I did to the car was swapping the awful C5R replica headlights for the stock ones. Thankfully the previous owner included all the stock parts, so it was very easy to convert it back. Man, does it look so much better to me stock!

Nice the car seems well put together, someone knew what they were doing and used quality parts. I am not a fan of c5r headlights either, they just look weird and dont flow well with the lines of the car. Mgw is a huge improvement over any shifter i have tried, you will love it. Imo c5z wheel look a lot better than the c6z, due to the lip on them. I have c5z 18" all way around and the car looks really good (285/305). Keep up the good work, it seems like you have some plans for it

Great looking and well modded Z you have there. Obviously the PO put quite a bit of money into it for you to benefit from.
Good to see another Z from the tri county area. BTW... Check out Lingenfelter' Cars and Coffee in Wixom sometime. Yesterday was the first for 2016 and it was phenomenal showing of cars.

A guy that is buying my other E46 M3 off of me just invited me to the Lingenfelter Cars and Coffee. Maybe I can make it out to the next one. When is the next outing set for?
BTW, here is the M3 I am selling tomorrow. This color may be called gray, but it is really a good looking color in person.

Sweet looking M series.
C and C is every Saturday from 8am - 10am but you better get there before 7:30am for a decent parking spot. I got there at 8:15 and had to park in back 40.

Ha!! Yeah, the headlights were awful. They also were the worst performing headlights I have ever seen. Barely put any light on the road at all. They are safe in the land fill right now. Lol!!
I got some more work done on the car today. First thing was to remove the spacers from my flush mount tail lights. This was another mod that I really didn't care for. I know the goal of these is to look cleaner, but they honestly looked off to me. For one the seals looked like a DIY project, not a sports car. I pulled them out, cleaned the openings with spray wax and some cleaner wax. Removed the seals and cleaned off the sticky residue with GooGone. Then I installed everything with brand new screws.
Before:

After:
Next project up was removing the BSM's. I know some guys like these, and some guys don't. I am all about keeping things as clean and simple as possible. Makes cleaning and waxing the car easier. I feel like it makes the car look more modern, and it's more sleek. I used a blow dryer, some heavy duty fishing line, a 3M eraser wheel, and some oven cleaner. I tried GooGone for the black residue left behind, but it took way too much elbow grease. I just dabbed a little oven cleaner over the area with a cloth, waited a couple mins, and it just wiped off. Then I went back and cleaned the panel to remove the oven cleaner residue.

After:
Also decided to then detail the engine bay a bit, and wipe the entire car down with spray wax. Got to keep it clean and shiny!!
I also scored a set of polished OEM C6 Z06 wheels off of a forums member. I know these are very aggressive for the C5, but I am going to do a lot of measuring and test fitting, and see what I come up with. If I don't like them, I'll sell them and go after some CCW's or something. These are going to be fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sports 265/35/18 and 305/30/19's. I'll keep the stock set with the NT05's for track or aggressive driving, and the C6Z wheels will be more street and show oriented.

You have made some nice improvements and the car looks much better for it.
I have a question on the flush mount tail lights. Mine came this way too, and I want to take it back to the original look. So there are spacers behind the lights that need to be removed. Anything else? Nothing needs to be replaced, just remove these? Do you have pics of the spacers?
And what is the size and length for the replacement screws?
Thx,
Shakey

I just used a bag of standard kitchen cabinet screws I had leftover from hardware. Ha!! I'll post up pictures of the spacers and the screws I removed. Basically you just remove the screws, and the spacers are plastic sleeves that the screw passes through before it mounts to the car. I did notice some of the holes on the car are not holding the screws very tightly. I am assuming many of you have noticed this. The more you screw in and out on the headlights, the more those fiberglass holes get stretched out, and the less they are able to hold the threads on the screws. I was wondering what everything does in these situations? I ran some Teflon tape through the holes a few times, and this gave the screw something to bite into. I assume you guys just run larger screws or screws with more pronounced threads.
BTW, if anyone wants my spacer kit, I'll give it away for free if you cover shipping. Just shoot me PM, and we will make it happen.
