Those who are using M1 0w-40
This is not an oil debate. Just wanted some feedback from those who are using or tried this oil in your Z06. How did it affect gas mileage? Did it increase/decrease valve train noise? Good oil pressure? Just curious because I though about going with a little heavier weight than what I currently have. M1 5w-30. Thanks

Only difference I noticed was oil pressure is a little higher with the 0w40, cold and hot. Other than that, I don't think anything else was noticeably different.

Holy crap you go 12,000 miles between changes?? I can't go over 2,500 without doing a change lol. Must be a really good oil to hold up with such good numbers with that kind of interval.

My OLM was still at ~13%. Usually do 7500 mile intervals.
The 3000 is more of a myth than anything else with today's modern oil and filter technology. I only use a M1 or K&N filter (same filter).
Stretched it a bit longer and did the oil analysis to see what the results would be. They recommended that I push it even longer and do another, but I'm going back to 7500. If you read the analysis, the results weren't much different than LS6s with 3000 mile intervals.

2,500 mile oil change is absurd unless you're tracking your car occasionally. Modern oils can run 7,500 miles easy. I have been running the M1 0w40 in my Z06 (track only car) since it became available and routinely run 280 to 300 degree oil temps in hot weather. I can not speak to fuel mileage and I hear no difference in the sound of ticking from my stock LS6.

It's my (nice weather) daily. I bought it with 42k two years ago. Crossed 73k last week.
Two weeks after I bought it, I took the car to Raleigh. Took back roads on the way down through central Ohio. Came back via DC/Baltimore, visited family in Pittsburgh. Did a lot of corner carving in the mountains.
Last year, I went to Columbus with my ex to a concert. Spent a day driving through the Hocking Hills. In July, I took my grandfather to our family reunion in Corbin, KY. Hit NCM on the way back.
I'm diving to Charleston in July to visit a female friend of mine. We're spending a week on the beach. On the way down, I'l be spending a few days in Chapel Hill. On the way back, I will be hitting the Tail of the Dragon/Deal's Gap. Shooting for Monday PM/Tuesday AM for less traffic.
Car is no creampuff, but it's an absolute peach.

Do you change after every event? I'm moving and will be pretty close to Grattan and Gingerman this fall. Trying to absorb as much information as possible.
Also, I'm not sure if I love your avatar or username more.

M1 0W40 is excellent oil. I use to spent time over on the bobistheoilguy forums....over there the 0W40 is regarded as the best oil offered from M1 with their 5W30 offering being on the opposite side of that spectrum. I've been running the 0W40 in my daily driver VW GLI for a few years with 10,000 mile OCI's. I wouldn't hesitate to run it in my Z, I typically stick to Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 just because I can get it cheap and it's another excellent oil to for the LS motors.
Oh yeah and as said above 3k oil chance intervals are a thing of the past. An oil analysis is never a bad idea to confirm what is truly appropriate or not for a given car but with good quality modern oils and filters one can more than likely stretch that out a lot further.

I recently read some info on the same site. It obviously is good stuff. As for the low mile intervals I know it's a bit ridiculous but I average about 2k miles a year so I'm going about a year and a half between changes. I will prob put the 0w40 next change and go a good 6k miles between changes.

I've read the M1 5w30 is very thin, more like a 20 weight. Is this true for the PP 5w30 also? And is M1 0w40 quiet a bit thicker than the M1 5w30?

It's been awhile since I looked at specs but IIRC M1 5w30 is either a thin 30w oil and/or it breaks down to a 20W fairly quickly. The Pennzoil Platinum is in a league above the M1 5w30, it's very good oil. Same goes for the M1 0w40 and yes it's thicker than the 5w30 they offer. Another really good option is the Castrol Edge 0w30 previously known as German Castrol. It's a thicker than your normal 30w.

The 5 qt. jugs of Pennzoil Platinum and M1 0w40 are somewhere in $22-25 neighborhood on Amazon, can't beat that. Pennzoil may still be running their rebate promotion to get $10 off 5 quarts. I'll have to check their site and buy more if so.

Yeah it's tough stuff to find. I've purchased it at Autozone in the past. I use to look at their monthly flyers and stock up when they would have Castrol on sale.

I know I can get PP in a 5 qt jug at wally world for $23 which is awesome, but I've never checked the M1 0w40, I'm sure its close to that.
