Default Central FL cam install ($3200-3800) fair price?

Car is getting in the mid 40K miles and was considering changing the valve springs. Since half way there, I wanted to price a cam install as well. I am getting quotes from local reputable shops for 3.2 to 3.8k for cam, springs, pushrods with new timing chain and tune. It seems a little high compared to packages I have seen lurking around here.

Is this ballpark or should I look elsewhere?

TIA

**** that's just crazy IMO, do it yourself and save a lot of $, then just pay for the tune. I am going to be doing the same exact thing here soon, just rounding up parts.

DO NOT pay that kind of money for a cam install.... That is crazy!!! Should run you about half of that... typically $800 or so for the install (plus parts) plus around $500 for a tune.
Get a second, and third opinion.

Think I paid around $2200-$2300 (including Texas tax) for my cam and install with new valvetrain and tune.

You have very little options in Orlando...But that price is Very High. HPS in west Palm should be around 2400 with a tune. That's cam of your choice oil pump springs rods chain everything that is needed. Im sure some of the Tampa guys would do it for a fair price.

May I ask who gave you a quote for 3k plus...........IMO that means they are either ripping you off on purpose or have no clue what is actually involved in a cam swap for an LS and in that case I wouldn't want them doing it any way.

First quote was from Next Level Performance for 3800. They wanted to remove the engine for the cam swap. Second quote was from Redline in Pompano beach for 3290, both without tax.

Both shops came recommended from friends who have gotten work there before and know LS engines.

I feel that I wont get the bang for my buck this route. Might just do valve springs myself and go with a procharger.

I am looking at a quote from next level for 2950 OTD for a cam install from 2013. There is no reason to pull the engine to go a cam swap on a C5.

$2395 at HPS in west palm advertised on there website. They are also a forum Vendor

Anyone around the south Florida area (specifically Fort Myers) PM me and I will get you done for MUCH less than those prices for the install.

It's great that you are a mechanic...most owners are not.

Your right most are not, but to be honest I don't think you have to be a mechanic to do the job. Just do a lot of research on how to do it and take your time. However if you do not have the tools that's another thing. But with the $ you will save doing it yourself you can buy all the tools.

I'm not a mechanic and I have done a cam install, valvetrain install, clutch install, turbo install, blower install, etc. It just takes a little time and research.

Trust me. If you have done all of that, you are one. Just because it's not the way you make your living, doesn't mean you aren't a mechanic.

For some it's like saying, "you don't have to be a surgeon to remove your appendix, just cut in there and give it a try"....

If you can successfully remove your appendix, you probably are (or should be) a surgeon......

I'm not a mechanic...I did my own cam swap and changed my clutch my self in my garage on jack stands.

To me it's as simple as paying attention to what you're doing...

Exactly..research is key. These cars how 15+ years old. There is TONS of info about these engines and cars that can get anyone through an install.
