Default Shift boot alternative?

I just put a 4 inch delrin **** on my stock shifter, and screwed all the way down it pushes the leather boot onto the wide part of the shift arm, which stretches it in an ugly, possibly damaging way.

I removed the boot wondering if I could modify it in any way, and I like the look of the exposed shift arm. But I need a boot of sorts. Are there any alternatives to the stock leather boot? Rubber? Or any clever way to modify it to sit low on the arm?

Just a thought and some curiosity....

Thanks!

Why not just get an aftermarket boot cover? That's what I did when I put a C6 shifter in mine. Black with red stitching. There are plenty of them out there.

It'll have a wider opening? That's mostly what I need. I'll search around more for one.

Thanks!

It is just a B&M shifter with a delrin "C5R" ****. I used a Momo aluminum shift **** collar to add a little flash.

Me too. I wanted a little silver to jive with my gauge bezels, pedals, and other small silver or aluminum items in my interior. Something to break up all the black. I have found some better shift ****/boot alternatives since then, but the Momo collar did give me the look I was after temporarily.

What connecting material/adhesive did you use? JBweld? Superglue? Tap screw?

Nothing. The base of the **** had a slight taper that fit into the collar snugly. The pressure of the shift boot (secured with a zip tie around the shifter shaft) was plenty to keep the collar from coming loose.

Looks great. How much shorter of a boot did you get?
